When you go out of the cities there's people living in scattered tin shacks on the highway. Locals I knew told me stories of cars getting ambushed on the highways. I have an Ecuadorian friend who's family founded a town and owns a bunch of businesses there. The patriarch and matriarch of the family lived in a house about the size of my apartment. They had a cement wall surrounding it with broken glass covering the top so people couldn't climb over. They did have an indio maid though but I think the price of labor is incredibly cheap there.
