I never get these kinds of threads because the reason for this is always fucking obvious. Look at the map, our empire was centered around Africa while Spain's and Portugal's were centered around the Americas, and the Uk was everywhere at once. Of course a colony who mostly descends from europeans is gonna do better in the long run than some african shithole composed of 200 ethnicities who all hate each others and have 0 experience running a functional state. Other ex-french colonies outside of Africa fared much better, like Vietnam or Lebanon (until the later didn't lol, but for a while they were pretty much the best place to live in inside the middle east)
