Danish woman who studies Brazilian culture and even learned the language says that she's surprised that a large share of the brazilian population is against social benefits/welfare state.

"One thing that, even studying Brazil, loving Brazil, there’s something I don’t understand: I see that part of the population thinks it’s not good for the government to give financial support.
Here in Denmark, it’s almost impossible not to receive support from the government. If you have a child, you automatically get money, another child, more money. If you’re a single mother, more money. This isn’t frowned upon, it’s normal.

If you go to college, you get a scholarship, like, you don’t have to prove you don’t have money. You just get a scholarship, that’s it. So you can focus on your studies, to encourage more people to study instead of going straight to work.
If you’re unemployed, there’s also money you can request from the government. Here in Denmark, most Danes are proud to live in a country that supports people through the difficult situations life can bring.
So for me, when I hear about “Minha Casa, Minha Vida” (My House, My Life), I think it’s fantastic, I think it’s amazing, I was really surprised to find out there are people who don’t think Bolsa Senpaiília is good, who think it’s bad.
The SUS (Unified Health System)? The SUS is awesome! These things, it’s crazy.

That’s what shows we have a good society, when the society wants to support its citizens, you know? That’s all."
