If you need an alphabet system to teach the language to begin with it's retarded, Japan has the same issue with their kana system and chinese characters. When you look at videos that instruct how to read Chinese characters without pinyin it's always 'imagine the character as [something that looks nothing like the character]' they're essentially defunct hieroglyphics.
