Because I have a dead-end job I hate, I usually cope with looking at expensive houses, and a pattern emerged. Namely, american houses are fucking ugly. This is the average top tier french mansion, it's a gorgeous baroque/classical masterpiece set on the banks of the french riviera with a hundred miles of glittering ocean views and every furnishing is fit for maybe not a king but certainly a duke or count. Meanwhile, the average top tier american mansion is a converted farm in landlocked wyoming with and everything inside looks like actual ass, and the thing costs like 5 times as much as the french historical mansion. America also has buildings in the style of this, but everything just looks off and worse, it's like americans don't understand traditional european art, imagine donald trumps house for instance.

So my question for this thread, why is america so fucking ugly? I'm not talking about the average american, but people who are so rich they could hire any architect on the planet and build a house from solid gold.
>>
I think the issue is American mansion builders take the approach of taking normal style and making them bigger.
>>
>>216417331
I think this looks too much like some hotel.
>>
Here's a mansionified colonial. Just doesn't work.
>>
>>216417411
That pointy pediment on those two long lonely pillars looks fucking bizarre
>>

post an example of a McMansion
>>
Modern mansions are a hit and miss, but kinda soulless even when they are nice.
>>
>>216417507
>>
The owners are calling this "Chateau isle de France."
>>
>>216417507
Here's an example of the "tumorification" of american houses. And they're not quite mcmansions, they actually ARE pretty nice but not what you'd expect from paying upwards to a hundred million dollars. It's not like the american megarich live in shacks, but there's just something not quite right with them.
>>
American homes used to look nice back before they were all built exclusively by mexicans exclusively for truckjeets to move into

things have changed thoughever
>>
It's a design-issue not builder issue.
>>
>>216417786
I absolutely love american victorian houses, although they have an advantage in that there are so many good stories set in them, but then again that's probably due to their innate charm.
>>
>>216417658
Sovl, I can see this being 10 miles outside of Topeka and it will take you 3 hours by walk (or 5 minutes by car) to get to the nearest supermarket (the parking lot sits right behind your fence)
>>
"yeah give me a house that's just a collection of random extruded blocks" - quotes by the absolutely deranged
>>
An example of an interior from one of the more med-style american homes. I just wonder, why is everything beige? It's like a nuclear war wiped out all historical records and they unearthed the ruins off some old 18th century european palace, but the radiation had destroyed the pigments in every single furnishing and they started a cargo cult around it anyway. Which, I suppose, isn't very different from what europeans did with ancient greece, but that's different o algo.
>>
Maybe it's just me, but the McMansions posted here don't look that bad
>>
>>216417331
You should look at mansions in the Old South where the slaver aristocracy left behind quite a few nice houses from their ill-gotten gains.
Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC are a great start. But the reality is that only the South actually had its rich people living mainly in the countryside. America is an industrial nation, the expensive homes of the Northern merchant elite were mostly urban
>>
>>216418121
As a sidenote, the aesthetic of the american wealthy remind me a lot of gulf arabs, everything gulfie looks like shit but the art of nafris, ottomans, lebanese etc is genuinely wonderful. The beige-ness is overwhelming.
>>
>>216418147
It's more like something post WW2 has been lost. America was always a semi-barbaric imperial nation, but nobody can shit on art deco for instance. But 80 years after WW2, and things are DIRE.
>>216418142
They don't look that bad, but would you pay millions and millions and millions for them when you could probably buy an entire european castle for the same dosh?
>>
I am a podcaster who talks about testosterone and cigars and this is my home. I may be bald but that's because I'm so f*cking MANLY. Buy my new supplement so you can be ALPHA BEASTMODE too

Everyone have forgotten how to build pre modern architecture, especially the contractors buildings new mansions who are more accustomed to working on cheap track housing.
>>216418147
Industrial tycoons built mansion all alongside the eastern seaboard
>>
>>216417331
I might be coping but it feels like living in a huge mansion would be a pain in the ass after a while. You need like 20 people to constantly maintain shit, so you're never really alone. I'd rather have a small house surrounded by a huge private plot of land, forest, river, meadows etc.

It looks soulless(Scandinavian).
>>
>>216418287
We lost urban housing as an art form with the rise of a car. We used to have huge really dense cities across the country, but now we just have NYC, SF, Boston, and Philly
>>
>>216418371
Sometimes when I look up mega mansions I end up moving on to stuff like small townhouses or expensive flats in london, or fancy homes just outside that's 2 bedroom which would be more reasonable for an incel like me
>>
Here's a room in the newport mansion built by the vanderbildts. This is an ACTUALLY good looking interior. This is what americans COULD build.
>>216418439
Don't get me started on modern scandinavian """"""""""design"""""""""", but I would like to submit the cope that scandinavia does not represent the pinnacle of empire like france, britain, spain or the USA did or does.
>>
>>216417331
mayority og rich houses are ugly and unpractical, it just comes with being rich whitout anyone teaching you taste or good manners. or basicly any kind of life at all. fuck having servants, i have a log cabin in the mountains and a boat at the sea if i where rich, none with servants.
>>
>>216418611
Here's apparently an interior from the home of bill gates. Aside from just being a massive artistical failing, it sort of makes me concerned that one of the most powerful oligarchs in the most powerful nation in the world has the artistic sensibilities as a hollywood housewife. It points to some kind of moral or intellectual failing.
>>
>>216418371
A lot of glided age mansions were torn down because of the cost of up keep. The ones that are still around are typically museums or belong to some institution like a university.
>>
I heard that american millionaires use the same shitty fast to build materials as the rest but just in bigger homes
>>
>>216419001
I heard the same. I wouldn't be surprised if american millionaires lived in houses made of particle board and vinyl siding.

I'm a NEET but I also cope by looking at historical mansions too, been doing it since my teens. I prefer also autistically mmorising the mechanism of how they're built though, I plan to become a carpenter eventually. I want an Ohrid style (muh ancestors) half timbered castle with a stone foundation one day. I can practically already build the wooden frame of old school houses and plaster it myself, it's laying the stone that\s the problem.
picrel is Saint Jovan Bigorski, a monastery muh ancestors also built and carved on the inside

You know why they're souless but can't tell why?

It's because of the windows.
So many windows. Big windows, large windows. Covering the rooms entirely.

Can't have a private fuck, can't walk around naked, without constantly worrying in your subconcious & unconcious that someone outside, a stalker or sniper, might monitorize you.

Because of the many fuckin' windows, big, large...

I didn't read your entire blogpost but that is an ugly ass house. Maybe it's just because of the piss yellow paint. Probably looks better inside.

How much does a home like picrel cost?
>>
>>216417331
>So my question for this thread, why is america so fucking ugly?
because america's entire raison d'être is being severed from the old world and all of its traditions, including architectural and artistic ones

this is also why americans who insist they're irish or italian or french don't understand why it bother europeans: america was born and prospered out of the corpse of europe and from an european perspective america isn't the continuation of european civilization but its absurd parody, the confirmation of its death reflected in some sort of hideous inverted reflection

As if classical window proportions don't dictate that your walls should be 40-60% open gaping holes... Just look at actual feudal mansions ffs. Not castles that were made to be as secure as possible with no openings, but actual manors.

OP, you're looking at newmoneyslop, you need to look harder to find the regal estates america has to offer
