Cousin marriage is mostly done for economic reasons (easier to settle mahr obligations or just arrange wealth division within the family than with strangers), it's not a strong requirement in South Asian culture, really. Mlecchas do overexaggerate importance of this question, for Asians the decision whether to marry a cousin or an outsider is just like choosing between chicken and lamb for a dinner, both are possible and you choose what tastes better to you.
