I'm sticking with French. I think I'll give up on learning Japanese. I'm too old for that, and there are many languages of countries with stagnant economy that I want to learn. I also need to master English. I want people to envy me.>>216461143 It is not only the population that matters, but also the average age. In an aging society, even young people adopt the characteristics of older people. Therefore, my thesis is, a nation of 20 million with 10 million young people will be more culturally fertile, dynamic, vibrant than a nation of 50 million also with 10 million young people. I get the impression that the Japanese people (but not only them) are turning into a nation of low expectations. I saw a video about this on YouTube and I can't refute these observations.>Maybe Portuguese if Brazil reaches even a fraction of its potentialThey just refuse to do that and they are starting to gettin old>Spanish>IndonesianI get the impression that they are not very culturally productive, at least when it comes to export culture and slop (usually the same thing). Considering the scale of languages ofc

My knowledge of Indonesian culture is limited to Hololive but it reminds me a lot of latin America, or like a cooler Brazil. Plus they have 280 million people and a birthrate above replacement.

just blogposting please dont mind meI just want to say that Reddit is such a dogshit place if you want to learn any language besides japanese (r/learnjapanese arigatou gozaimasu). Supposedly, there are large communities taht will help you learn every language existent on the world (or at least some 40 languages), but the communities itself are horrible. Not that I navigated anything besides r/learnenglish, r/learnjapanese (the only good subreddit) and learnfrench (which I want to start learning), but you do expect that they, as a language learning forum, display a certain production of materials and resources for aiding the learning of fellow netizens. But since Reddit is Reddit, you will only encounter shitty ways of learning, such as paying for apps, which are horrible, at least when it comes to certain languages. And I don't really think is possible to learn any language by using Duolingo 15min/day. The best recommendation they have to give for a total beginner is downloading a fucking shitty app. I have to say that they also recommend some good input youtube channels but I don't know, anyone can just search for "<target language> comprehensive input"From this we can conclude that no one on Reddit actually wants to learn, but just have simple fun without real commitment. Redditors should choke themselves on a tight rope. Fuck Reddit! Fucking so!ylent-eating pigs!!!!Btw does anyone have a good French book recommendation for total beginners? :3
Can I not just go on interpals and help a Japanese virgin woman learn to speak English and then marry her? Must I truly learn another language?
>>216467496Yeah I hate them as wellPeople measure their time spent learning a language in years, they think it's completely normal to have studied a language for 5+ years and be incapable of reading a page of their TL's translation of Harry Potter, they think the only way to learn a language is by taking classes and following the assigned textbook, etcThey don't actually want to learn their TL, they just think that learning a language is a good thing to do and they prefer to identify as language learners rather than actually doing it I have developed a passionate hatred and contempt for these peopleFor French my favourite textbook is French for Reading by Karl Sandberg but as a native Portuguese speaker I'm not sure if it'd be necessary, also the lack of audio kind of hurts Maybe you could try Le Français Par La Méthode Nature but personally I found the first 10 or so chapters really boring, it has the benefit of audio though

All of this was accomplished by young people, unfettered by a system where for every young person there are five whining old men and ten women>a counter culture against the previous generationRather, what they consider counterculture. The rebellion has been hijacked by the old people. Maybe there's a slight swerve to the right. But even so, counterculture always builds on the mainstream. New generations think in the same terms as older generations, only they consider something different as a "cool tuning".>but I'm sure they'll manageYep, probably. But for now, Japan is more and more depressing and not so dynamic culturally >they have the same birthrateSo they don't have much time. Japan has had this birthrate since the idk 70s, but it got rich as hell by the late 80s.>not very culturally productiveVtubers, telenovelas, reggaeton. But I do overall like LatAm music though, especially Brazilian one. But as I said >Considering the scale of languages ofcBut I won't deny it, I may be ignorant on this matter. When it comes to American culture, for example, everyone sees Taylor Swift, rap, LGBT, and the fight against racism on movies, but few realize how large the country music scene is. Because it is not an export cultural product
>>216469053Fuck, I meant >>216463952 also
>>216463952>Japan will manageYeah by importing underpaid Indians and Africans lmao
>>216469053you're right of course, there's going to be massive stagnation with the increasing lack of young people. You need to not only have young people, but also have an environment where they're allowed to experiment and think freely and act on their own initiative. The 'you're still too young and haven't finished maturing yet so you won't be given any serious tasks' line of thought destroys society. And oddly this sentiment is more common among progressives than conservatives now

I'm wondering whether to continue French or replace it with Italian (rather useless professionally, sounds nice too, much easier to pronounce, I have relatively close family there), Spanish (grammatically easier than Italian, pronunciation more difficult than Italian, but easier than French, also useless professionally here) or German (the only universally useful professional language, slightly easier pronunciation, more difficult grammar, but not as for people who are not familiar with the concept of cases). I'm still undecided about whether to learn Japanese in the meantime or not. I like the language, writing system, I like Japan, their cars, but the future looks bleak (is it correct and natural in English?). It's far away, ticket prices are expensive, and the salaries aren't encouraging. Asian women are ok, but I don't have the yellow fever and get bored by anime.
>>216476528>Spanish (grammatically easier than Italian, pronunciation more difficult than ItalianSpanish isn't grammatically easier and it's only marginally easier phonetically.>I'm still undecided about whether to learn Japanese in the meantime or not. >>216476528If I saw a girl whose thighs looked like that I would tell her to lose some weight
>>216476805>One of the best things in Japanese.No. You are probably thinking "cool logographic characters accompanied by an alphabetical system for grammatical inflections". That would be cool but it is not what the japanese writing system is.But that's not what it is at all. The vast majority of Hanzi weren't logographic to begin with, diverged from their phonetic components over the course of centuries and then the japanese created a whole layer of mess on top by being undecided whether to use them phonetically, semantically or both.Whenever you have two kanji next to each other (which is all the time) you have to figure out if it's a chinese compound word (possibly a fake one invented in japan like 飛行機) a japanese compound word (like 靴下), or a non-compound japanese word that's written as if it was a compound (面白い) sometimes using pronunciations that you would never use for the individual characters (明日).

Honestly, I bet despite all the bleak news, etc Germany is still a great country and place to live in and that they'll figure it out.
>>216479680>you think your ancestors inspected the teeth of a gifted mule?Yes? >it limits your fecundityYou have it backwards. Almost every culture in human history is autistic and selective about beauty standards because they want to maximize fertility and health. If you were an ancient tribal and they arranged you with a girl from another tribe one of the first things you should do is check her teeth.
