1. 'European' as defined by the Maastricht treaty can be used in a geographic, cultural, or linguistic sense. Also, no EU documents define what Europe means in a geographic sense.
2. Algeria as part of France was in the EU, Greenland as part of Denmark was in the EU before it opted to leave, New Caledonia in the Pacific is also part of the EU as a French territory.

In conclusion, if it's expedient for the EU for a non-European country to join it, the EU will allow it.

Lol that's mostly Quebecers being retarded and boomers seething at Trump. You can tell it's Quebec doing it because most people polled said France is our most important partner in the EU, which nobody outside of Quebec would ever even think.
>>
>>216476807
That seems to be a more emotional reaction against Trump than an actual serious idea.

Canada joining EU when 70% of their foreign trade is with the USA just doesn't really make sense. EU is less than 10%.
>>
>>216478050

Yes but unlike EU we're an actual country.

We have one language, you can move from thousands of miles from Chicago to Los Angeles and have absolutely no trouble adapting. Our labor force is extremely flexible, people regularly move thousands of miles on a whim. We are one market with no internal trade barriers.
>>
>>216472306
This. Had things been different it would have been nice to have Russia too since they are an extension of European civilisation and culture even if they try hard to pretend that they are something special
>>

>We have one language, you can move from thousands of miles from Chicago to Los Angeles and have absolutely no trouble adapting. Our labor force is extremely flexible, people regularly move thousands of miles on a whim.
Europe is better without this.
>We are one market with no internal trade barriers.
And this we already have.
>>
>>216478720
>And this we already have.
You need a million different packaging variants to sell through all of Europe (for many products at least) and local offices that can market etc. in each country. I doubt Americans need that for each state
>>
>>216478720
Linguistic plurality is absolutely a disadvantage of Europe. Someone being able to move to another place and immediately adapt is an asset to the US economy, our labor is flexible and can move to where its most needed.
>And this we already have.
No, there's still lots of internal trade barriers despite "single market". Canada also has internal trade barriers. America has basically none.

>What does 'culture' mean?
"Culture is a concept that encompasses the social behavior, institutions, and norms found in human societies, as well as the knowledge, beliefs, arts, laws, customs, capabilities, attitudes, and habits of the individuals in these groups.[1] Culture often originates from or is attributed to a specific region or location."
>And you believe that linguistic plurality is what gives Europe 'culture'?
To a large extent, yes. Two groups who can understand each other share things with each other, two groups who can't understand each other have to develop their own shit in parallel.
>Both have the same dominant language.
Eh, other languages, especially Chinese, still have a very predominant role in their society. But it's not just about language, two groups that are geographically isolated from each other also tend to develop a culture of their own, for that reason Anglo-Canadians do not really have a separate culture from Americans whereas Brits largely do.
>>216479778
Very obvious bait.
>>
>>216480343
>Anglo-Canadians do not really have a separate culture from Americans
Wrong. The Maritimes and other areas are basically just Britain.
>>
>>216480343
So you're not saying they have more culture, you're saying they have more cultural plurality.

Yeah that's obviously true, but I don't really understand why that is a good thing. Linguistic plurality is an inefficiency, it would be better if people could understand each other more and if people had the choice to migrate to other parts of the EU without having to learn a new language or get stuck in some kind of 'expat bubble'. Both for the economy and people's personal freedom. I like the fact that I can move to California, Texas, Chicago, or NYC and have little to no cultural barriers upon moving.
>>
>>216480445
>and if people had the choice to migrate to other parts of the EU without having to learn a new language
Learning a new language is fun though
>>
>>216471605
Anon, no Canada, the US, or other Anglo countries will ever be in the EU, because the EU is an alliance of Germany and France, who are now simply buying the elites of smaller countries with gibs instead of conquering them as before.
>>
>>216479661
terrorists aren't european
>>
>>216480489

>>
>>216478002
>our most important partner in the EU
You do know Britain and Norway are not in the EU, right? People may like the Dutch more than the French, but France is three times the size of the Netherlands. 37 times larger for Latvia.
>>
>>216480553
Terrorists aren’t Lebanese
>>
>>216480638

>>
>>216480445
I like the fact that I can travel to Germany, France, Italy, or even Norway and enjoy a place that is substantially different from where I come from. But in the US everything is the fucking same, a town in Maine is basically identical to a town in Oregon, takes away all the enjoyment from travelling.
I also like that here in Sweden we have our own music, our own cuisine, our own traditions, our own language, our own literature, etc., Wisconsin does not have that.
>>
>>216480893
I don't think language is the only thing holding up cultural differences in Europe. USA doesn't just speak the same language, its also a very young country, so there really wasn't much time for areas to develop their own culture, Portland Oregon was literally founded by people from Portland Maine, for example. UK has a bit more differences between regions. Stockholm would still be very different than Lisbon even if they used the same 'business language'. And of course there's also geographic differences, Phoenix's climate, geography, are substantially different from Maine's, even if they aren't particularly culturally different.

But anyways, I don't think how fun it would be to travel in should be the main determination for what direction a country (or whatever EU is) should take, unless you see each part of EU as just a playground for you to travel in and enjoy how every place is 'different'.
