And of course there's also geographic differences, Phoenix's climate, geography, are substantially different from Maine's, even if they aren't particularly culturally different. But anyways, I don't think how fun it would be to travel in should be the main determination for what direction a country (or whatever EU is) should take, unless you see each part of EU as just a playground for you to travel in and enjoy how every place is 'different'.
