FACT: only languages in blue are worth learning. Green if you're really dedicated to it

>let's switch to English
Good luck finding a German fluent in English, especially if they're either older than 35 or come from a rural background.
>>
>>216569024
any language other than english is not worth learning unless you need it for work or if you are planning on moving to that country
>>
Uncommon good American post.
>>
>>216569084
In the country maybe, I didn't have too much trouble in my visit.
Outside? Most Germans I've met here speak English ranging from rudimentary to very well.
>>
A lot of switching is people trying to glaze Bob Amerikansson or whatever with their English skills. It's not even to be nice.
>>
In Switzerland, is the reaction the same whether you speak German, French, or Italian?
>>
>>216569158
Was it actual conversations or "una biera por favot" tier stuff?
>>
>>216569024
when americans tourist try to speak in Italian then I reply in very broken english with bad pronunciation
>>
>>216569024
extremely reddit post
>>
>>216569024
>please don't

this only applies to fat yanks in Paris who say "ENSANTEEE" and "BONJOURRR"
>>
>>216569024
I fucking hate this map. Seriously where did the "French people hate it when you learn their language" meme come from
>>
>>216570731
from parisians who can't take another fat american trying to bother them on their way to work
>>
>>216569024
Since we started getting immigrants, I just switch to English if they attempt speaking Croatian. It's not an unfriendly reaction, they just suck at it and I feel like it's easier for both of us to speak English because if I speak Croatian fully they won't understand me and 90% of Indians, Nepalis and Filipnos, when they don't understand something, they just pretend they do and hope for the best.

Zdravo tovarish gde tualyet
>>
>>216569024
I don't know man, I had a better time speaking my kinda broken french than engilsh there
>>
>>216569024
i wanna learn italian german and french i refuse to learn a slavic language
>>
>>216570731
It's a shared experience
>>
>>216571430
That's good enough, but you'd say tovariš to a Slovene, and druže to a Croat/Bosniak/Serb.

Ireland belongs in its own category of

further proof that anglos are germanic
>>
>>216570731
It's from the universal experience of French learners seeing French people disgusted when attempting to speak in French. Very elitist people
>>
>>216569024
English, French, German, and Spanish. Those are the only Euro languages worth learning.
>>
>>216570731
This
Everyone who says this has actually never experienced this irl but has seen it posted online and repeats it like a parrot.
It doesn't make sense.
>>
>>216570731
I went to Paris and spoke my shitty French and people were nice to me.
>>
>>216573232
Whatever helps you sleep at night

From British propaganda and American language complexes.
>>216571503
>>216572808
Bullshit
>>216573290
Because French people are nice. Although, seeing how especially British but American tourists too behave, I'm not surprised that some French people were rude to them.
>>
>>216569060
nice try... but why bother?

>Je ne parle pas bien français
>Mais le français moyen ne peut pas bien anglais non plus

C’est fini. Je n’aurais jamais des amis français :(

>Where does this meme come from
From Parisians, I thought. Are southerners more friendlier than northerners in France, too?

Why
>>
>>216569084
I kind of assumed all Germans were fluent but I guess that’s because the only ones I’ve interacted with have been international students or on
english speaking sites
>>
>>216574450
Way less English speakers down in the South than in Paris obviously
>>
>>216569024
Spanish and German college students I've met couldnt speak english worth shite. But german sounds much more beautiful to hear in real life, unlike spanish. The opposite of how movies depict the languages.
>>
>>216574246
>bullshit
Oh right sorry this meme just spawned out of nowhere with no basis in reality. No one experienced a rude and arrogant frenchmen scoffing at you when trying to speak french to them
>>
>>216573100
Could've stopped at English tbdesu.
>>
>>216571395
>when they don't understand something, they just pretend they do and hope for the best.
that's what I do as a non frenchie
>>
>>216575439
>trusting anglos
This is anglo meme. Champagne is valued because the English drank wine from this region in the 17th century. Germans are not that punctual and do not speak English that well, Vikings cared about hygiene and were not dirty barbarians, and the Black Legend of Spain is a complete fabrication, Germans are not Huns
Did you spoke with any Frenchmen? Americans?
Firstly, British tourists are a natural disaster, and secondly, Americans get offended if you don't kiss their ass. Those Karen memes? The whole nation behaves like that, only they get offended by different things depends on skin color, political alignment, age. Americans take offense at everything.
>>
And I don't want to bash Americans too much, because they are super nice people, I really like them. They are even too much nice sometimes. But it's really easy to offend them with any little thing. Everything is political or problematic for them. Like using a french word or not smiling to them. And they loooove to exaggerate things
>>
I study French and Old Icelandic, recently I picked up German
After German I will learn Russian and maybe Icelandic
After that it might be Latin, Old French or Italian or maybe none
I don't think Spanish or Portuguese are worth learning as someone who doesn't care about speaking to people
If I get enough money saved I'd rather visit France or Iceland, not Spain or South America
>>
>>216569024
Im enjoying learning greek my teacher last lesson had the biggest porn tab on her stream I couldn't hide myself laughing from the webcam
>>
>>216574246
you realize every culture has its own conception of what "nice" is, right?
>>
>>216569084
Unironically this, they have such an inflated ego because they self report their english skills
>>
>>216571395
But then how will they learn
>>
>>216569024
I, for one, prefer to speak to foreigners in Swedish.
>>
I love german but its not worth taking seriously aside from as a side hobby
>>
The only language worth learning is one that's immediately useful to you.

I learned Spanish because that's the language I grew with.
I learned Catalan because it's mandatory for school and work where I grew up.
I learned English because I grew up on the Internet and it was useful.

There's literally no point for me to learn any other unless I'm going to live in (not just visit) another country where it's useful.
People who learn languages just because as a hobby are fags and wasting their time. They won't even be able to learn it well anyway without a pressing, urgent need.
