So long story short, I've always liked how russian sounds, russian music, art and history, and thought of learning the language to immerse myself in the lore. But it seemed too alien and lacked motivation and focus. Recently, after a long alcoholic episode that almost erased my existence, I've been trying to find things to hold on to life and trying to learn russian has been one. I bought some basic books to learn how to read/write the alphabet and I'm on a 105 day streak on Duo (yikes, ik) but I'm not achieving anything besides catching some basic words. At least the alphabet and phonetics have been quite easy, but that's it. Also, all free material being for english speakers doesn't help either (I'm currently in a shitty job and don't have enough money to go to paid courses, also difficult to find because anything russian is a taboo in the west). Any advice to help this old loser to move forward with his russian? Any new platforms or apps I'm not aware of? Any bilingual repository for movies or series? I've tried and only found shitty material, I0m sure it has to be some new AI powered stuff I'm too out of touch to have been noticed. Have a wonderful Saturday everyone.

Alphabet. Pimsleur Audio Courses (available for free on Telegram or you can pirate somewhere else or pay for it). Comprehensible Input Russian on youtube. Maybe some structured lessons on youtube as well. And you are Gucci at the beginning. Maybe some ready to use Anki deck (and Anki program in general, find out what it is, refold has some great guides) and learning like 5 words per day from it. Optimally with example sentences. Good luck
