A woman next to me in a bar I didn't know started stroking my thigh one time. I thought about reciprocating but she was clearly blackout drunk and kind of ugly.This was the only time I received any female interest despite spending two or three evenings a week drinking there over the course of two years. I don't believe you can pick up women at bars in the modern world unless you're a 10/10.

There was only one empty stool between us, she was basically right next to me.I think she expected me to strike up a conversation with her because I could see out of the corner of my eye that she was constantly glancing over at me every minute or so. I started panicking internally that she was going to try to talk to me and that I wouldn't know how to politely end the conversation, because she was fairly chubby and not attractive to me.I just sat there and pretended to be interested in the basketball game that was playing on the TV in the corner above the bar. Even when it switched to commercials I just kept staring at the TV, because I was worried that if I looked anywhere else or pulled my phone out she would use it as an opportunity to talk to me.

The one I went to was right across the street from my apartment and was a locally-owned place where people who lived in the neighborhood would drop by for a quick drink after work or if they were too assed to make lunch/dinner. I could never have gone into the ones in my college town because it was all big groups of people who were only ever having a night out.Best rule of thumb I can think of is to find a place where the bar is usually more popular than the tables.
I haven't gone out to bars much but one time I did and some guy rattled off Ed Sheeran lyrics at me as if I was supposed to know them because I have red hair
