In a perfect scenario? Russia if they get their shit together and become an actual democratic country that cares about its people. Their industry has plenty of room for growth and diversification and they have a ton of natural resources. They are right on the doorstep of the world's biggest trade block and they can offer them plenty of things. Their current business model is just being a huge gas station

China really isn't a threat militarily and if the US could stomp Russia out it would have already considering they're the only real threat to the USD due to having cheap resources. If the US had an issue with China why did the invest so much into building it up since the 1990s? China was about as well developed as India and had less GDP than sub-saharan African colonies, they're still one of the largest holders of US treasuries. The only reason the US suddenly got mad at China was due to 2016 and Xi siding with Russia. The fact that the US threatens China but not even Trump would dare say a word against Russia tells you all you need to know.
