The problem is that the things the Republicans want to do are dumb bullshit like tax cuts, abortion bans, etc. that they can push through anyways and the Dems can easily appeal

If the Dems ever get control of government again the filibuster is the only thing preventing universal healthcare, massive public housing programs, higher minimum wage and other such things that the Repubs wouldn't be able to take away. That's why the Republicans in the Senate don't want to give it up.
