The central crest in Mexico's flag symbolizes the indigenous religion/institutions/peoples (snake, quetzalcoatl) being subdued and eaten alive only to be shat out later by the Roman Empire/Spain (Imperial Eagle), and I find that beautiful.

That's not what it symbolizes but sure

>The coat of arms recalls the founding of Mexico City, then Tenochtitlan. The legend of Tenochtitlan, as shown in the original Aztec codices, paintings, and post-Cortesian codices, does not include a snake. While the Codex Fejérváry-Mayer depicts an eagle attacking a snake, other Mexica illustrations, such as the Codex Mendoza, show only an eagle; in the text of the Ramírez Codex, however, Huitzilopochtli asked the Tenochtitlan people to look for an eagle devouring a snake, perched on a prickly pear cactus. In the text by Chimalpahin Cuauhtlehuanitzin, the eagle is devouring something, but it is not mentioned what it is. Other versions (such as the backside of the Teocalli of the Sacred War) show the eagle clutching the Aztec symbol of war, the atl-tlachinolli glyph, or "burning water".

The apparent contradiction is easily explained by this: The war glyph atl-tlachinolli was also symbolized by a snake

The eagle & snake represents Quetzalcoatl & tezcatlipoca which were the seemingly antagonistic forces in Mesoamerican world

The eagles could also be interchanged by any kind of bird, the meaning remained the same

its true like he said but also its true of even european countries, like the Spanish connection with the Bull is from Dionysus cults, England is named after one of their native gods Ing, ect. Even if you don't believe in the true gods they are still there and still in control of the world.

Nigga read Cronica De Tezozomoc and stop being a contrarian. Basically all ndsoamerican experts agree the eagle represents quetzalcoatl

I'd post the link to actual codices but you'd probably wont redeem.

It isnt what it means.
That serpent is just a serpent, while Quetzalcoatl is a feathered serpent.
The eagle and the nopal have its origins in the myth of creation of Tenochtitlan, in which the aztecs would settle in the land in which they saw a bird standing in a nopal.

Yes & you can also depict it as an eagle carrying a serpent. Its the same. Different artistic styles same meaning.

Ok, but then, why does the Teocalli sagrado doesn't have the snake? It has the eagle and the nopal, but there's no snake

In all honesty though, why do Mexicans care about ancient Aztec traditions if they're like 70% Spanish o algo anyway and even if they have some native blood in them, it's most likely of the tribes that hated Aztecs and supported Spaniards in their conquest?
>>
>>216642957
Most Mexicans are majority native, not necessarily Aztec though. Western states especially have huge numbers of "mestizos" who look straight up like maybe 1 Pancho fucked a Purepecha 500 years ago and that was the sum of Spanish blood in that family

Im not native , but i like researching the history of the peoples that were here, i also like european history and asian history even though im not a pure european and i dont have asian ancestry.

It is, in fact i estimate most mexicans are descendants of tlaxcaltecans.

I like this one.
If they had to make a state flag for Mexico City, I would propose using this eagle.

Really not.
Most mexicans are mestizos.
Even in the most indigenous states they are not pure indigenous but a mix of europeans and africans.
Pic rel is the average genetic ancestry in the state of Oaxaca, which is often considered as one of the most indigenous states.
The purple is the amerindian ancestry, the green the european ancestry and the yellow the black ancestry.
We are glad to be mestizos, and proud to be the mix of 3 continents.
>>
>>216643063
>descendants of tlaxcaltecans
Hmm interesting, according to Wikipedia

>Because of their alliance with the Spanish Crown during the conquest of the Aztec Empire, the Tlaxcalteca enjoyed exclusive privileges among the indigenous peoples of Mexico, including the right to carry guns, ride horses, hold noble titles, maintain Tlaxcalan names, and govern their settlements autonomously. This privileged treatment ensured Tlaxcalan allegiance to Spain over the centuries, and even during the Mexican War of Independence, though Tlaxcala did host a strong pro-independence faction.

Wouldn't that mean that only "elites", are of Tlaxcaltec origin?

>Ok, but then, why does the Teocalli sagrado doesn't have the snake? It has the eagle and the nopal, but there's no snake

Because the Atlachinolli was also symbolized as a jar overflowing with water. In Nahuatl jar is komitl and water is atl. So following nahuatl grammatical rules you get KOATL which means serpent

Huitzilopochtli was just another reiteration of Quetzalcoatl. Quetzalcoatls were avatars or great persons that carried out social reforms, majestic constructions, or great social upheavels

Thats why Cortes was called Quetzalcoatl also

> Donde tenian su dios principal a nadie era permitido entrar, sino al sumo pontifice; y este dios tenia distintos nombres segun la provicinia; porque el de la gran ciudad de Mexico se llamaba Horchilobos y en otra ciudad que se llama Cholula Quetzalcoatl y asi en las demas

Mexico received a comparetively low amount of spanish immigrants considering the importance for the Spanish Empire. Argentina received 2 milion spanish immigrants according to jewgle, why didn't Mexico atracted more immigrants?

Most colonial era europeans got killed by brownxicans during the independence war and the revolutionary war
The european blood of Mexico is rather new. Western and northern mexico is more influenced by the fr*nch expedition of the XIX century, and CDMX is more influenced by the spanish commies that ran away from Franco. This is why western Mexico, despite having a lot of blonde blue eyed people, is actually not racist while southern Mexico is still a caste system nightmare.

In most of the XIX century Mexico was in wars.
Either be america, civil war, revolutions or wars against the french.
Literally after the "guerra de reforma" the second French intervention happened inmediatly.

The Aztecs tried to end the worship of Quetzalcoatl so they could install their gods such as Huitzilopochtli.

We had slave and nativist revolts, but I can't remember an episode where pardos revolted against the portuguese under racial basis.
We wuz probably treated better than mestizos.

I think it's possible that was just another meme the Aztecs would tell people so they would worship Huitzilopochtli.

Kind of how the Spanish would say Quetzalcoatl was Jesus.
>>
>>216643685
The revolts werent racial in nature. They were generalized protests against the shitshow that was the New Spain. That native mexicans had killed the local landlords which were all sp*nish was just a nice addition to the whole situation
>>
>>216642957
>it's most likely of the tribes that hated Aztecs

The mexica were not "hated". This is one of the most common myths. In fact, even within the tlaxcaltecs, there were great schisms regarding the alliance with the spanish, which is a topic that is not regularly talked about. There were pro-mexica tlaxcaltec rulers. But the anti-mexica ones ended up imposing themselves.

Mesoamerica in 1519 was in the breakout of a civil war. The Conquistadors were considered as another mesoamerican tribe by the mesoamericans, not as some alien gods. Conquistadors themselves had become 'indianized' (they wore sandals like indios, ate like indios, since they've been living in the caribean for decades). They were in fact indianized europeans.

The mexica didn't impose their religion on conquered tribes. On the contrary, they would incorporate the gods of the conquered tribes in their pantheon.

What ended up causing the anti-mexica alliance, was the mexica ramping up taxation. Its not different to how Borbon reforms (aimed at taxing to hell & back New Spain) ended up causing our independence
