Gemini (google's chatgpt) is telling me that Germany has basically the fastest route to permanent residency for skilled labor in the world, less than 2 years for an engineer to become a permanent resident

Why is it that I don't hear about many people taking advantage of this?

Basically Germany has several different legal status that can be translated as “permanent residence”. The one from Blue Card is the weakest one, comes with a lot of caveats.

This

Plus you are getting exploited early on (low salary). Job market is pretty grim atm too. While you stay here, you need to be employed and are basically forced to obey what your company that hired you demands. Because they know you just can't easily drop the job while the process is pending. But as I said, we are in a recession right now, too many Indians and other third world shitters ruining the market. Companies lay offs left and right.

Best salary would be in Swiss.

>for skilled labor
that's the crux of the issue. if you're whiter than a turk you need to have a tenured professorship in a highly in-demand subject to qualify as "skilled labor". if you're brown you just need to be able to spell your own name.

It used to be 3 years but that legal avenue has just been nixed by Merz because he's battling the trumpist AfD on immigration. Otherwise you also needed an official C1 in German too. Your next best bet is Poland that can give you citizenship with 3 years of residence and you only need a B2.
