It's very explainable, a few schools that represent 0.0000001% of schoolchildren go turbo hard on preparing for these competitions and they end up with good results

I remember one year they just made the entire class go take a test exam to weed out the weak and the ones that got a certain score moved on to the olympiad. Once you're there they give you as many days off from school as you want, prizes, payments, vacations, all depending on your performance.
