Here in Brazil much of the best Portuguese art was cultivated and flourished.
The greatest prose writer of the Portuguese language, António Vieira, lived and wrote here (where he came as a child) for most of his life. Some say that, like Pushkin, he had a small percentage of African ancestry. He was called "the emperor of the Portuguese tongue" by Fernando Pessoa.
Portugal's greatest inventor, Bartolomeu de Gusmão, considered by some "the greatest Portuguese of the 18th century", was also a Brazilian, from Santos, São Paulo.
Some of the greatest masterpieces of Portuguese architecture, literature, sculpture and classical music were made in Brazil, by Brazil-born Portuguese subjects, particularly in the Baroque period, but also during neoclassicism, most notably with the Arcadian movement in poetry, which resembled the Italian Arcadia in its academic interests and inspiration in Latin bucolic poetry.
It started right after the discovery of Brazil, specially with works of José de Anchieta, a Portuguese priest and poet who wrote many works in Portuguese, Latin and the Tupi indigenous languages in the 16th century.
The truth is that Brazil was Portugal and Portugal was Brazil for more than 300 years. There was no real difference between them, other than the ones you would naturally expect given the geographical distance. The Brazilian elite typically sent its children to study in Portuguese, specifically in Coimbra, where they acquired a full Portuguese education, well into the 19th century, even after independence.

Pic related is where António Vieira studied and taught in Salvador, Bahia.

It's a shame that leftroons reduced portuguese influence and culture with slavery and killing of indians.
It's like they want to erase 300 years of history, as you said.

Does your evil know no limits?

They won't.
Those are merely the fashions of the time. Besides, it's a fully political thing. Only left-wingers dislike Portugal, similar to how left-wingers in the US dislike the South.
Our colonization history is completely different from that of, say, Algeria or India. In our case, we are the actual colonizers. The contemporary Portuguese in Portugal are mostly descended from the ones who stayed.

Here in Brazil we have had quite a few interesting painters. In the first half of the 20th century our painting flourished considerably, thanks to painters like Cândido Portinari, Anita Malfatti, Eliseu Visconti, Alberto Guignard, Tarsila do Amaral, among others, most of whom worked in a modernist style.

Because in Portugal they "eat" the vowels, so it ends up sounding like a Slavic language, full of consonants.
In Brazil we pronounce the vowels openly, in some accents we even add vowels that aren't there.
