Goslar's playground edition

Previously on /flag/: >>215993147

>do (You) like going to places, taking photos and blogposting about it?
Welcome to /flag/ + /extraflags/, a comfy 130 IQ general for Extraflags users that combines your passions for geography, maps AND travel by using the Extraflags extension

Threadly activities include travelposting (local trips are welcome too :^), urbex, wilderness exploration, hunting for radioactive minerals, eclipse and aurora hunting, (extra)flag collecting, map filling, cycling across Europe, other autistic activities and overall funposting

>What is Extraflags?
Extraflags is an open-source browser userscript that lets you choose regional flags, like states and provinces, to add to your already existing default country flag.
Turns out it's very well suited for travel posting because you can flex with the ultrarare (or at least, nice) flags you're travelling to, rather than using it as a tripcode for tripfagging in other (low iq) threads

Instructions and video guides for installing Extraflags can be found here: https://flagtism.gitlab.io/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/
Requests to add or change flags can be made here: https://gitlab.com/flagtism/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/-/issues

second for anyone wondering how i got the new flags in Hungary, the tranny previously in charge of the server never did a database extract before decommissioning it so i had to reconstruct the Goslar dump semi-manually

here's the dump https://raw.githubusercontent.com/ebinBuddha/Flag-Miner/refs/heads/master/FlagDumps/2025/reconstruction%2020250415.xml
full dump at the end of previous thread. that was the dump between Trieste's last dump and the hack, that unfortunately did cause the thread to get deleted. fucking soyteens

Outside of Russia, Ukraine and Belarus, I've got maybe three years worth of trips within Europe left, at most.

>one or two trips for Scandinavia and the missing Eesti region
>one or two trips for the Balkans
>Iceland
>Cyprus? Possibly included in a Balkan trip

There's still a few regions I've been to but need proof pics for but that's low priority obviously.
>>
>>216673817
you should do a trip through Istanbul to Georgia. I hear that country is a wonderful tourist destination and you can avoid areas in Turkey with Kurdish separatism.
>>
>>216686884
>areas in Turkey with Kurdish separatism.
Those areas are safe af, there hasn't been any danger since 2019. Also, we are in the peace process, PKK surrendered and laid down weapons.

There used to be ferries between Bulgaria, Turkey, Ukraine and Georgia across the Black Sea but those have been dead since the Ukraine war. Would have allowed for a lot of cool itinerary options.

>>216687142
Even Iraqi Kurdistan is pretty safe to visit.
>>
>>216689511
i mean like you could travel through Trebizond, I hear that's a very pretty part of turkey. You're so lucky that you get to travel as much as you do, I have only left America once and I was like 5.
>>
>>216689701
Yeah but where to go after fucking around in the Caucasus? Russia would be cool but I've been to Ukraine so many times I'm scared they'd lock me up. There's a ferry from Azerbaijan to Turkmenistan across the Caspian see but Azerbaijan's land borders have been closed for years for God knows why. No ferries across the Black Sea to return to Europe. Iran? A German-French cyclist just recently got arrested there for four months on espionage charges. Georgia and Armenia are somewhat of a dead-end. Maybe the Arabian peninsula could work now that Syria is safe enough again.
>>
>>216690260
Don't go to Russia. There was an American travel vlogger who went there a year ago and got imprisoned for political reasons. It's not a safe country for tourists, and probably won't be until the current regime is destroyed.
>Georgia and Armenia are somewhat of a dead-end. Maybe the Arabian peninsula could work now that Syria is safe enough again.
Greece, Turkey, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan would make for a good trip.
>>
>>216690349
I just realized you don't want to fly. I would expect Azerbaijan's land borders to open eventually if the current peace situation lasts.
>>
>>216690406
The land border closure has nothing to do with the geopolitical situation. The Azerbaijan government closed the borders during Covid and has extended the closure ever since lol.

>Fun fact: Last week the ferry services between Trabzon and Sochi restarted after 14 years.

Wow that's cool. There's a been a bunch of routes over the years, with the ports frequently changing: Odesa, Chornomorsk, Constanta, Burgas, Varna, Karasu, Istanbul, Novorossiysk, Poti and Batumi are some of the ports that I remember that had ferry connections in the past. I've never heard of the Trabzon-Sochi connection.

Looks like the Ukrainian ferry operator UkrFerry now plies the route between Varna and Batumi. That could be REALLY useful for me. €220 one-way.

you have to send a mail to their mailing list flags@groups.io . Then, your mail will appear as a message on this forum https://groups.io/g/flags/ . It's then possible to reply to a thread normally like in any other forum without the need to send more mails, you need to send a mail only to create a new OP (there are no "generals" there, so you pretty much need to create a new OP for every finding unless you send all the findings in one mail. Most people do the former)

I once sent my whole Austria folder with thousands of flags, zipped, without too many explanations other than "these are the flags i downloaded with a script i hope you like them".
you could do something like that, you already did your service researching for /flag/ and sending them that folder, you can leave them the job to analyze the flags one by one lol

it makes sense, the terrain on Diablo is much different than the rest of the range that shares its name. You can find pine trees with MASSIVE cones on one side of the peak, and I think it's a species unique to the mountain. You can drive to the top of Diablo, but the best way to do it is to start from the bottom, making it a 10 hour hike deserving for a P3000.

That's one of the biggest reasons why I wanna go to Ottawa, cities separated by rivers are so interesting to me. I've only been to Strasbourg+Kehl like that. I both walked across the countries and also took the tram (Strasbourg tram extends to Germany)

I find it interesting too. Walking across to the other side, it's like a flipped switch; for one, pretty much everything (except national sites) is now monolingual.

> I both walked across the countries and also took the tram (Strasbourg tram extends to Germany)
Here, the train is only on one side but both of the cities' bus services intersect at certain points — in fact you could theoretically make a trip on one side's service while remaining fully on the other side.

Also, quick note: wonder why the old region's still used for this place, given they merged into one city 20+ years ago similarly to Toronto.

little do you know the mess you just put yourself in :^)

https://gitlab.com/flagtism/Extra-Flags-for-4chan/-/issues/1176

tbf *most* municipalities in Ontario should have flags but to the very least there are unincorporated/unorganized (equivalent to municipality) lands that will surely need shape flags
ah and native territories are a mess. the same band/tribe can control different reserves hundreds of kilometers away from each other, so they need to be treated separately even if they share the same flag (the indian nation's flag or seal)

luuuuckily wikipedia is very well done. follow it 100% and the whole territory of Ontario should be covered by something

bonus fact: the mountain village of Boarezzo (live your dream in Boarezzo) is one of the few mineralogical locations in Italy where uranium has been reported. probably not enough to be of amateurial interest but still, giving the peculiar geology of the area where you have magmatic rocks instead of the usual limestone so ubiquitous in the southern Alps, it's not surprising that there are these kind of minerals

What I am trying to do is, since I joined on December 3rd, 2024, I want to download every flag that was ever posted since then. I think it's only fair to have them in my collection.

Nvm found it on an old Facebook post.

When my family all had covid, we all went to be tested, even though I was entirely asymptomatic while everyone else was obviously sick. I tested positive even though I had no symptoms. I don't know if I had it since then.
>>
Just so we're on the same page... is Uzbekistan here uwugay?
>>
I mean, as in Uruguay.

cute logos

usually the text should be removed unless it's integral part of the logo, i'm happy you did that otherwise i would have probably done that myself.
it just makes for better flags, in fact i'm planning to reprocess better a few sets of logos we did before like Singapore or Aruba

lmao even
have you ever seen urugay contributing to anything?
>>
>>217243580
He contributed many laughs.

you do have a point

Yes, as we all know, Kocaeli Province is located in Uruguay that's why my nickname here is Kocaelianon

>usually the text should be removed unless it's integral part of the logo
Good to know. Also makes the shapes much more noticeable, that's why I chose the flags with the big logos without the text when I researched Turkey.

I noticed only later that there were the two "extra" boroughs of Sentrum and Marka. for the former i used the stilyzed CoA of Oslo because it's fitting, for the latter unfortunately i wasn't able to find any logo or CoA for the natural park there.
Quite a shame, i'm used to the natural parks in Germany and they always have logos websites and everything.

Also it's crazy how they have such good nature right next to the city
