I work for a defense contractor as a precision machinist and we are never out of work. Some of the older guys told me when work was slow during the recession they still stayed busy because we did work for the medical industry. Must really suck to be a code monkey/IT type

I got a stupid meme degree and have been very disappointed by what I'm able to get, I've just worked retail/warehouse/NEET since graduation on and off. I want to get on an engineering apprenticeship, because if I get on a good one I will finish with a degree-level qualification and 5 years experience in the field. About 40% of people I know from university are doing well, 60% are wretches like me. as long as I have something stable by 30 I don't mind. I should've done something technical at uni, but it's still recoverable.in a strange way I feel better seeing many people my age (mid-20s) struggling. also, don't include your degree in your CV when applying to these shitty retail positions. anyway, there's worse times to reskill than your 20s. think how many 40-50 year old cashiers you see in real life. not everyone immediately gets that cozy post-university job, especially now. just work towards something you think is solid and in demand. 18 year old kids normally shouldn't be allowed to just pick a random university subject, very strange system we have if you think about it
