I want to learn another language, but there’s literally no language worth learning as an EFL. >FrenchMostly spoken by Africans, the French themselves will hate you for “butchering” their language no matter how fluent you become, and the uvular R is disgusting.>GermanGermans hate themselves and their culture and will think you’re a Nazi for trying to learn their language. Also, they all speak English and will just speak English to you. >SpanishThe most spiritually brown language there is.>ChineseToo hard, you’re a larper for speaking it as a white person.>JapaneseToo hard, you’re a larper for speaking it as a white person.>ArabicToo hard, you’re a larper for speaking it as a white person.I’m jealous of ESLs, they at least have an excuse for speaking an irrelevant language. How the fuck am I supposed to justify investing so much time in something so irrelevant?

>>217170324Unironically Latin has been the most rewarding hobby I’ve ever had. Get a vulgate and latin by the natural method or LLPSI Familia Romana and go to town. No pressure to output perfectly or speak to any thirdies.
>>217170324test
>>217170324I think you're just lazy and finding excuses as to not learn any language whatsoever
Learn Italian. It's not difficult at all and It's like if Spanish got unbrownified by white roman beasts. (Even if alot of Italians are brown nowadays)
>>217170324>Mostly spoken by Africans, the French themselves will hate you for “butchering” their language no matter how fluent you become, and the uvular R is disgusting.M’en fous. Personne ne peut m’arrêter. En tout cas, j’en ai besoin d’apprendre l’occitan - la plus belle langue du monde. La langue d’Aliénor d’aquitaine >>217171023I liked Portuguese. Would you recommend it to a EFL? It doesn’t sound so intense compared to Spanish. Of course, we are inundated with hispanophones in my country
>>217171023>Even if alot of Italians are brown nowadaysammazzati, cleiton
learn polish
>>217170324Yes you're a larper with Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic, and everyone in the West will ask you why the fuck you're learning those languages. But the actual Chinese, Japanese, and Arabic people still love it when a white dude starts speaking in their language even if it's shitty broken speech.
>>217170324Japanese is great. There is a lot of untranslated media to enjoy with it, if nothing else. You never need to use it for anything other than reading and a bit of writing.
>>217171301Is it just me, or can I not stand the sound of Japanese? There’s nothing more annoying than hearing the shrill shriek of an animu girl yelling sugoi desu ne at the top of her lungs.
>>217171097Honestly i kind of don't. It's too complicated and has too much little faggy rules to it, also it variates soo much in region and common people talk a certain kind of portuguese full of dialects and slangs that a gringo probably wouldn't comprehend. But it does sound beautifull tho (and much better than spanish)
>>217171326I grew up watching subbed animu, so I might just have grown accustomed to the sound over time.
I had sex with a Japanese whore and she colonized me with her pussy I'm learning Japanese to speak to more cute Japanese girls
I'm learning Hebrew and the only way I can justify it is that it's the language of my people. And even then, sometimes, I still feel frustrated that I'm essentially learning for no reason. Israelis already know English (the ones worth talking to anyways).I just remember that it's not about utility but about community. I learn Hebrew because I want to be closer to my people - not because there's some economic benefit to get out of it.
>>217171383Yeah, it was kind of surreal hearing the Brazilian Portuguese pronunciation, then hearing the Portugal Portuguese pronunciation. And in guessing that Paulistas sound different than cariocas, gauchos, etc.
>>217171130learning slavic language is like saying you're a hardcore gooner
>>217170324If you have Celtic heritage you can larp like we do and learn Irish, Welsh, or Scotch Gaelic
>>217170324Chinese isn't hard if you can learn tones. The grammar is very simple.
>>217171502Don’t you guys use traditional characters instead of simplified. There was a YouTuber I watched a while back and apparently Taiwanese call their language Guoyu and mainlanders call Mandarin PutonghuaI’m reluctant to learn an non Indo-European language but I’d honestly choose Mandarin over Japanese. Chinese culture and history is far more fascinating. Plus, I’m not very fond of anime
>>217170324learning new things is fun and makes you feel better
>>217170324>spiritually brownImagine making up excuses for your lack of language learning skills and still think of yourself as superior, LMAO.Jeets learn like 3 indian languages + English. You can't be inferior to jeets can't you OP?Learn french for it's old literature and stop being a whiny bitch
>>217170324I'm learning Russian for travel>>217170925 is also right though. Latin is awesome and I would still be doing it if I wasn't on Russian now.
Are you a woman? I highly suggest that you stop doing things just for external validation
>>217171933Yeah, Latin’s grammar difficulty is grossly exaggerated, and the vocabulary is literally the easiest of any language of Earth for English. Makes your English advance substantially, let’s you read everything worth reading written for about an 1800 year period.
>>217172119I haven't done my Latin for over a year now so I am very rusty. But I enjoyed going through Caesar and other easier Latin authors. It's seriously impressive how good these men were at writing and how much of their prose is lost in translation. It only made sense to me why Cicero praised Caesar's prose so highly by reading the Latin. But also I'm a great lover of ancient and medieval history and I do want to translate and read more, of course I'll give it a year before I get back onto that when I finish up with my Russian. There are so many untranslated things out there that I think deserve the light of day
>>217171541There are not many reasons to learn Traditional Chinese other than if you are into sinology or if your partner is from the region that use traditional characters. The only advantage in doing so if you don't fulfill the requirement is that it's easier to adopt to simplified characters compared to the other way around.Guoyu and Putonghua is essentially the same thing. There are some nuances in vocabularies due to historical separation and regional influences but they are both essentially standarised Pekingese. You can consider learning Bopomofo as some kind of alternative phonic system like Katakana and Hiragana in Japanese. It is relatively unknown in China so memorising it will instantly make you better than part of the Chinese population in that regard.
>>217170324I feel the same way. why learn another language? I already speak the best one.
>>217170324Angloids really be saying shit like this making up excuses to not learn any language and believing themselves to be superior.Insanity.
>>217172521you're speaking our language. if you were superior, we'd be speaking yours.
>>217172551>our
>>217172521In learning French (not well but I’m somewhat persistent). Honestly, the hardest part is immersion, and this is simply because there’s so much fucking media and entertainment in the Anglosphere.Sure, there’s a lot of kino in French (especially with their comics), but their media just pales in comparison to American/British media. They don’t even have their own imageboard because they tend to like forums more (JVC).
>>217172612You should delve into porn, the french for some godawful reason have the most refined porn imaginable, works of art so carefully crafted I cant jerk off to them. However they are often dub into english if they are animations or are impossible to find if they are more traditional.I hate France, but that place is fucking ancient, just about fencing alone (one of my autism fields) theres books upon books. Sure, theres not "media" to consume like Hollywood and shit like that, but theres still a lot to inmerse yourself into, its just a matter of if youre interested on it or not.
>>217170324I chose Japanese because I like their cartoons, my country is closely allied with them, and because it is the hardest language to learn as an English speaker. I also practice writing the language with my left hand. I mostly do it to aid brain health, but it's become fun. I want to try and become a polygot and make a conlang before I die now.
>>217170324Youre a passionless faggot with no love for knowledge who tries to hyper optimize everything for making more money, on top of that you're kidding yourself, youre not even competent enough to learn a foreign language to fluency.>FrenchMany major works of philosophy were written in those languages, plus french cinema is among the most celebrated in the world>Germansame as french plus germans have a great education system and their contributions to science are too long to make a list about them, great architecture and they shaped the history of europe in major ways>SpanishUnlocks a ton of dlc>Chinesemost spoken language in the world by native population, china is a rapidly industrializing society which creates a lot of business opportunities and they already publish more scientific papers than the us and they have overtaken or will overtake american technology in some aspects >Japaneseanime, literature, movies, there is something for everyone here>Arabicthe history of the crusades, their empires, also travelling to Saudi arabia, the UAE, egypt. you would unlock a different writing system. You would learn a lot about ancient societies, take egypt for example, iraq, syria, arab speaking countries are home to some of the oldest cities in the world.
>>217171880okay that doesnt count because they have many native languages. Its different from sitting down to study a language for hours>>217171959thats crazyalso op, you could learn quebecois french and probably pass a local lin canada and any kind of french is superior to metropolitan french
>>217173306Only based in this shit thread.
>>217170324if you dont intend to either1. use it for a job2. use it to move to the countrythen no, there's no real "point" in learning a language other than the inherent value of learningand at that point you might as well just learn whatever language you sound cool or where you enjoy their culture so you can understand that a little better
>>217170324>they all speak EnglishLOL no. On this site, yes. But come here and you'll quickly find out that cashiers, bus drivers, plumbers, older people etc. etc. don't speak English here.
>>217173886or 3. use it to speak with your loved ones
>>217170324>Germans hate themselves and their culture and will think you’re a Nazi for trying to learn their language.not my experience. i speak a bit of german (b2), and the germans i encounter in a work capaccity always seem to enjoy having simple german conversations with me (for example the introductory greetings in a meeting, etc). especially the ones a little older who might not be so well-versed in english.
>>217173948
>>217173964tfw I spent some time learning Serbian with my ex. what a waste that was in the end
French is worth learning for literature Old Icelandic is worth learning for literature if you're interested in Old Icelandic literature and want to learn a Medieval languageGerman might be worth learning for literatureClassical Chinese might be worth learning for literatureSame with JapaneseUltimately though i have to say that I just enjoy the process a lotIf you don't, you might think it's not worth the bother but for me it's addictive
>>217174142>German might be worth learning for literatureAlso for movies, TV series, documentaries. We dub e v e r y t h i n g. We also produce a lot ourselves.
Japanese sounds kind of robotic
>>217170882LOL
>>217170324You don't want to learn a languageYou want to already know one to impress strangers or something gay like that>>217171481I learn slavic languages and I'm a hardcore gooner>>217172612Damn near anything you'd want has a French translation, it's gotta be the easiest language for immersion
Japanese enough said the amount of exclusive content is insane just about every major franchise has somethings.
>>217170324Nobody is forced to learn any language, anyone can live in their bubble and live like that for the rest of their life. But it also means that learning ANY language is good, because if you are passionate about a language then you will not care if it is "useful" or not. And in my opinion people shouldn't think in terms of pure usefulness about languages like which has most speakers, most/best literature etc, just live bro and learn whatever.
