"AI" has always been resistant to exponential growth and it's the reason why development of "AI" has staggered from early computing to modern computing.a lot of people, notably, people who want to pump stocks, are floating the idea of "AGI", including Sam Altman (probably a con artist, who found a very sound bridge to sell). afaik nobody knows how to get there, there is no horizon. many datacenters are being spun up, yet no marked improvement has been shown. you'll see evangelists talk about invisible metrics like how well it can recite facts about the intricacies of gay sex; that hasn't mapped well to the actual user experience.
Someone from a rich family will accept that job, likely someone who wants to immigrate to the USA.
