How can I lose my thick accent so that people better understand me?

People that struggle with understanding accents are low IQ and probably not worth talking to anyway.

Learn the symbols of the IPA phonetic alphabet but only the ones used by English. Learn their sounds (they are often surprising compared to spelling). Practice writing and pronouncing words until you master them, there is not much consistency with spelling and pronunciation so you pretty much have to relearn every word. This is the consequence of retarded ESL teachers usually taking Received Pronunciation and teaching a thirdiefied accent version of it and declaring it to be flawless English. For example a Pole would spell your thread's question phonetically as "Hał ken aj luz maj tik akcent soł dat pipol beter anderstend mi?" But in truth if they were taught the real typical British pronunciation, a neutral one like Estuary English, it would be "Hał kyn oj lyłz moj fyk aksynt seł wat pipuł beta ondystand myj?". Just to give you an idea how inconsistent that is to what you'd expect. Upon learning IPA you'll have an even more accurate understanding of what I mean here

Pretty insightful, you have any tips for losing the Indian accent while speaking english?

https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Appendix:English_pronunciation
Again requires knowledge of IPA but this page has a comparison of every sound in all English accents including Indian. Wiktionary also allows to search for any word and it will have IPA transcriptions for it in both American and British English

Why? Ever heard an Irish, Scots, Aussie, Manchunian or Hillbilly talk? They're barely intelligible. If they don't care, why should you? Very few of "native English speakers" speak the King's English (even he doesn't).
