>>217189340No I can only say I really speak standard Croatian but with some Chakavian vocab that I didn't realize didn't actually exist in other regions. I also grew up using some incorrect word endings thinking they were grammatically correct but they were actually regional Chakavian influences on my language. I can understand a lot of spoken Chakavian from hearing my mother speak with her parents.I have very little Slovenian knowledge from my father's side of family, very rarely hearing Lower Carniolan spoken when my dad was speaking to his peers in Gerovo. I'm more exposed to it now from visiting more often but I wasn't exposed enough during my development years so I don't understand it as well like purer Chakavian, plus it's also more different from standard Croatian than any other dialect. The word for "boat" is "brod" while "lađa" (ladja) is also used and refers to some other older and larger types of vessels.

and not to define Sloveneness in negative terms only, the southerners lack such cultural traits as the fantovščina/dekliščina (stag parties), vasovanje (rural Slovenian courting), hišna imena (the house having its own surname which every family moving there is known by in the village), and ledinska imena (surnames based on topographical features instead of vić patronymics)
