Quebecois are seen as the French equivalent of Alabamans or the like, and super snooty about Parisian pronunciation being the sole proper way of speaking French. Imagine a bunch of New Yorkers or gays from London moved to small town Texas and started telling all the locals to speak proper and making fun of their accents.
