you forgot to mention the 6 (SIX) aircraft carriers backing the task force, over 300 planes, vs 36 on the japanese side

Six escort carriers, not fleet carriers. The planes were armed with bombs for land targets, not ships. However, due to the Japs not having radar, air recon and only depending on visual recognition, they mistook the carriers as fleet carriers and the frigates as cruisers. The Americans were also extremely agressive, further fooling and spooking the Japs. Yanks had radar guided guns too, so even their carrier's guns managed to hit Jap battleships.
