All the American founding fathers were closer to hippies than modern Christians. Jefferson basically said he was a Christian because he thought Jesus was a good guy

America is more a "hippy" country" than a "Christian" country

Hippies were the best people that ever lived

They basically still are. I don't know why there are so few of them around. People just don't want to be hippies anymore

A lot of our founding fathers were deists (believe a "God" made the world, but that's it. No heaven or hell, no rules, etc. God doesn't care.)

Atheists get confused about Jesus because they don't get Christian love.
If you're an atheist the highest form of love to you is probably avoiding suffering, maximizing pleasure, something along these lines is the usual atheist morality.
For Christians the ultimate love is to help people not be separated from God forever and damned to Hell.

These two world views will lead to vastly different actions, for christians suffering sometimes will be necessary to lead you towards the path of God, so ultimately that suffering is good.
While for an atheists pretty much any suffering is a pointless booboo making him cry, so it's bad

Every single hippie turned into a fascist the first second something bad happened to them.
