Do you live like this in your country?
Yeah, but with a laptop instead of a pc
>>217707909
I'm fine with not living this way but any decorations would be bought by my gf's money. She wants them, she buys them
Maybe also a shelf

>>217707909I might if I were not married. My apartment when I lived alone in graduate school was sparse and dismal. Not quite as bad as that; I had a few pictures on the walls, and a bedframe under my mattress. But not much better.I actually much prefer living in more attractive and better-appointed spaces, but I have no sense of style, a high tolerance for discomfort, and cheap/stingy instincts.

>>217708463wait is that normal? i'm trying to look into cultures where only a bed and a small night table occupies the entire bedrrom (apart from closet) and which ones make room for a desk even if it means making the bed smaller
>>217708518If you live in a 2 bedroom flat and you don't have kids, there is no reason to put your desk in the same room you sleep in.It's way comfortable that way, especially because I can comfortably play vidya and lurk 4chan in my desk room while wife chills in bedroom

>>217708771to be honest since I took that photo I bought some green curtains and a night table and now the bedroom looks significantly cozier, also planning to add some wall decorations but I haven't decided if I want some paintings or rather hang a big TV on the wall
>>217708757Nice sheets. Did your mother buy them for you?
>>217708463>>217708495this is somehow more souless than op's pic
Computer is in spare bedroom that mostly serves as an office.I bought the two little framed pictures visible at right, on a business trip to Korea. But I have next to nothing to do with the furnishings and decoration of my home. I don’t have any sense of style or instinct for interior design. I can pick out occasional objects that I find visually interesting, but I mostly just opine on things chosen by my wife. I am content with that.
>>217710005>but I mostly just opine on things chosen by my wifewhen you see plants and random small decorations you can instantly tell that a woman lives there

>>217710114I know at least a few men who are into plants, but I am definitely not, and they’re far outnumbered by women. And the plant-inclined men I know are more likely to enjoy gardening/outdoor plants than houseplants. The few men I know who are really into houseplants are either gay, autistic (I know a bonsai tree hobbyist and a guy who breeds orchids, both of whom seem far too obsessive and geeky about it to be neurotypical) or both (old classmate whose life is dedicated to bus schedules, solo travel to famous rose gardens of the world, which he catalogs and photographs in minute detail, exotic potted plants, and the affections of large hairy men).

I have a two-story house in a central area of the city, its value is 110k usd, I would gladly sell it to live in a cold place near a lake.Seeing this thread makes me realize the difference between living in the first world and the third world.
>>217712334no i'm not buying things. it's papers and items i already had that get spread around all the time. i need to have a weekly schedule to remove this stuff in addition to the cleaning schedule.

>>217712251I’ve got a friend who sort of did this, just before moving. The key to his transition was to take an extremist, scorched earth approach to shedding unnecessary undesirable stuff. Over a sustained couple of weeks, he got rid of the vast majority of his accumulated possessions. Gave away or donated most of it, sold a few things, trashed a few things. He then forced himself to stop buying new things. He gives himself permission to buy (or preferably just find) a small quantity of used books and vinyl records, and he has one wall of shelves dedicated to each, in one room of his new house, where he’s also got an uncomplicated stereo system on a folding table and a small cheap couch (think it’s IKEA). His place is otherwise very nearly empty. Room with desk, computer, and desk chair (technically the only chair he owns), room with bed, kitchen with a single cabinet of dishes, a counter to use as a table, and two stools.Apart from his two media collections (which he also sells/trades/gives away periodically, so his collection doesn’t get much bigger), he buys nothing but food. Oh, and he also replaces items of clothing as they wear out, but his wardrobe is tiny, he keeps his garments for years, and he never buys anything to wear unless he’s getting rid of something else at the same time. I don’t know how many pieces of clothing he owns, but it’s fewer than I’ve got, and it’s a number that has stayed exactly constant for years now.Anyhow, he seems to like it. I don’t like visiting him much, because the few things he has available to sit on are not particularly comfortable. But he’s proof that if you’re willing to chuck more than you think and to commit to stop buying stuff, you could minimalize your life.
