Why is America so different from the rest of the west? Does it even count as a 'western country' anymore? No other western country has America's militarism, private gun ownership prevalence, allowance for free speech/hate speech, levels of immigration, degree of police militarization, % of prison population, degree of racial conflict, political polarization, etc.America is an entirely unique beast not seen anywhere else in the west...but why?
