When developing the arabic script, couldn't they have dropped the squiggly spaghetti nonsense for the based Latin Alphabet?
>>
>>217728646
Should have adopted Hebrew or Syriac scripts.

I guess they used the greek alphabet before regressing to the arabic script, which is a less evolved and sophisticated writing form
>>
>>217728686
Greek would've been a massive step forward

Meh, I'm learning both Hebrew and Lebanese Arabic, and Hebrew has a problem too with lacking vowels in common writing, using a mixed system (ktiv male) that's a little unwieldy as it can be very ambiguous.

Abjads are incredibly annoying. Even Franco (arabic written with alphanumeric characters is a massive improvement).

The Arabic alphabet is such garbage. I tried learning it but when I realized they don't write half the vowels and you simply have to guess them I quit.

Hi
>>
just git gud buddy

also, why in the fuck do you want to learn arabic when you're all the way in europe anyway
>>
>>217729155
wdym it'll be the lingua franca there in 20 years
>>
>>217729000
It's not an alphabet
>>
>>217728951
he is speaking f*rsi, you wouldn't understand his indian language anyway
>>
>>217729237
What else would it be? It's not some hieroglyph shit like the Chinks use.
>>
>>217729367
You know, lacking vocals it cant be called alpha-beta.
It's called abjad
>>

>Abjads are incredibly annoying. Even Franco (arabic written with alphanumeric characters is a massive improvement).
it really isn't because it makes knowing how to pronounce the word incredibly difficult
see: maltese

Arabic script is the easiest one out there to learn after Latin. It's easier than Cyrillic because Cyrillic is a mindfuck when you already associate some of the letters with another sound like Poccnr

Why were you learning arabic? Also, fus7a or a regional arabic?
>>
>>217729155
Not arabic per se, Lebanese Arabic. Know quite a few Christians in MENA and want to go back (haven't been there in years).

My Lebanese ex helped me learn some Lebanese and I wanted to get more serious about it. Also learning Hebrew atm.

Helps for debating with muslims a bit too.

Cyrillic is totally fine (got a B1 in Russian).

Don't know maltese but for Lebanese it's trivial to pronounce something in Franco. "3am te2 7anak" is fairly straightforward to say.
>>
>>217729690
it's not because it's not a standardised way of writing and suffers from the same issues as many latin based languages do for new speakers (intonation)

what abjad + diacritics do in arabic is allow you to always pronounce and preserve the words correctly across time and space.
>>
>>217729827
Ah yes, because everyone chats in arabic using fathah/kasrah/dammah/sukun
>>
>>217729827
And Latin based languages, at least quite a few, are phonetically spelled.

There really is no ambiguity in pronouncing a Spanish word.
>>
>>217729873
3amm to 7annack
>>
>>217729941
>There really is no ambiguity in pronouncing a Spanish word.
there is in the germanic ones because we adopted an alphabet without adding all the necessary sounds.
>>
>>217729943
Funny, I know duruz who says it like that
>>
>>217729999
except I am saying it exactly like you. my writing is expressing the same sounds you make, but with different ortography
>>
>>217729989
Writing systems dont have to be 100% accurate, there actually is a trade off between number of rules/special characters and clarity. The english are doing just fine
