I'm not entirely up to date on Egyptian politics, but I'm pretty confident that el-Sisi is a brutal dictator, which generally turns people off.Morocco has more variety between the architecture and the picturesque Sahara. It's also less of a dictatorship than Egypt, and substantially less brutal from what I understand. For whatever reason, it's also in the, uh, vacation zeitgeist more than Egypt; everyone I know seems eager to go there, or has gone there, which makes their friends and relatives more likely to visit, creating a chain effect.
