why is it called "Romance of the three kingdoms" ? The kingdoms didnt make love to each other
>>
Because it’s romanced, like a novel. By opposition to the Records of the Three Kingdoms.

The roman empire is heavily romanticized in the west. Really, most ancient cultures are heavily romanticized.
Look at Rome. Westerners look fondly upon it as a bastion of order, progress, scientific innovation, marvelous engineering, etc... while in reality it was an imperialistic genocidal slaver state that brutally conquered and subjugated anybody in their path of expansion.

>'oh its actually all romantic and a cool exiting dramatic story now and totally not depressing and pathetic'

Some group of future people probably will romanticize Afghanistan this way. All the ingredients are there

zhangs had a class of monks and nerds who knew how to write that existed during that era and especially after it that could romanticize and write things.
i dont think anyone in afghanistan knows how to read that 'country' is more like an open zoo than an actual country

It's basically homosexual romance. That's why 三国志演義 is well known in Japan more than China.
