Sometimes, but they don't respect me much either. When I was c. 7 years old my father hit me so hard with a crutch a tooth fell of. He also said I was an embarassment to him. My mother once said to me when I was a teenager that she hated me for not letting her have a life of her own, and that she would throw me in the trashcan.

Yeah, but my mom way more than my dad.

I don't respect my father for reasons I don't care to discuss.
I do respect my mother.

My father is genuinely the least respectable person I have ever interacted with. I don't say this out of malice; he is a victim of his childhood environment, his idiotic parents, and his naturally low IQ. He is whiny, anxious (yet simultaneously proud), blames the world for his personal and professional failures, and holds 25-year-long grudges against people who don't show him enough respect.
I don't respect my mother for marrying him and sticking with him. I respect her for supporting our family single-handedly. She has been the bread-winner for as long as I can remember AND she takes care of the home.
