I just completed my eleven-hour plane plus rental car journey home for Christmas (which could have been a ~13hr journey if I’d added a train to the airport instead of the lazy, overpriced, but fast cab to airport). Had to be done, as I only see my parents once a year, and they are too old and enfeebled to come to us.

both. i do the trip back/forth like five times per year, and i just did it for thanksgiving. my dad is dead, and my sisters are usually pains in the asses, and i hate my grandparents. i feel bad that i'm not gonna see my mom, but i don't care about any of my cousins or gparents and i also hate how cold it and uncomfortable it is in my house.
