>>217790879The only thing that happened in the 1980s was the US told them and 3 other countries to appreciate their currency. If this is destroying their economy then the US also destroyed the economy of Guatemala by ending the banana republic. No real country sustains itself entirely through exporting to foreign countries. Following their currency appreciating Japan then deregulated all of their banks and started issuing loan quotas, if the US did this to them and had this level of control then Japan was owned by the US entirely and the US basically just liquidated an 'economy' that was little more than a shell company strapped to a government. And also Japan's currency is devalued yet again today, so if currency appreciation caused them to decline why aren't they rising again? Their currency is weak now they could start exploiting it, but instead they ended up doing tourism.
