when I was in high school some did know of it, I even knew a guy who told me he regularly posted on /x/ but other than that I don't think it's as known as it was back then, but other than that I'm glad I can finally say I don't use social media and it's not that weird anymore since everyone has a job and has grown out of it, they all just care about their own lives and zoomers now seek to use social media and their phones less and less so I don't have to lie and say I use twitter and reddit anymore I just say I have Instagram but don't really use it
I had a friend in middle school that was a fellow user, although we used different boards.

My friend asked me whay I was looking at, I told her 4chan, she didn't know what it was so I just told her reddit but lamer or something along those lines. I've meant 4 or so people in college that actually used 4chan and they were pretty normal people, thought none of them really use the website anymoe. One of them became a good friend of mine. Only time someone had a negative reaction was when I told a turbo redditor hong kong friend that I use 4chan and was suprised that I used the website. We later bonded over our lack of any women romance in our lives.

And when you first get there, you think, "Wow, I've stumbled upon this legendary place where some mysteries were solved, where real maniacs created threads and all that," but as soon as you see the first threads, it all becomes clear: Jews, Indians, Asian women and anime spam.
