We don't have christmas in my cunt. How do people celebrate it? What happens on christmas?
>>217838795the cities and town fill with colored lights, the air is fresh and comfy, comfy christmas themed movies are aired on tv, people see each other and wish merry christmas even if they really don't care. the whole atmosphere is magic and incredibly amazing even if you don't care about jesus.I love christmas time so much
>>217838795You’re supposed to go to church, but these days it has degenerated into mindless consumerism and aesthetics.
>>217838795at the beginning of december is advent, that's the four sundays before christmas. First advent, second, third, fourth. You have a crest from fir leaves with four candles and light a candle each advent until all are lit. There are christmas markets in all towns with sheds where people sell gingerbread, chocolate, candied nuts, candy, mulled wine, little presents. On christmas eve (24th) you go to church, there's a mass, you sign christmas chorals, that's the night when jesus was born. On the 25th and 26th are two more holidays and you celebrate in church and/or at home with your family too, you usually give each other presents on the evening of the 24th or 25th. It's the second most important holiday in christianity after easter, the resurrection of christ.
>>217839763why isn't easter as big as christmas?
>>217839829Easter is weird, nobody knows what it's about other than having time off from school/work and being somewhat around the start of spring
>>217839829good question. I don't know it for a fact, but I think it's because christmas superseded the pre-christian European pagan holidays of winter solstice (Germanic) and saturnalia (roman) that were also set in the middle of winter. It seems humans just have a desire to celebrate warmth and life in the middle of the cold dark winter, so when christianity spread in Europe, that date was chosen so that it would be easier for the locals to adopt the new religion.
>>217839866Ahmed please, it's about the resurrection.
>>217839882tbf, Easter superceded the European fertility festivals/holidays as well
>>217838795>We don't have christmas in my cunt.Christianity is India's third-most followed religion with 28 million adherents, who make up 2.3 percent of the population as of the 2011 census.[2] Christianity is the largest religion in parts of Northeast India, specifically in Nagaland, Mizoram, and Meghalaya.[4] It is also a significant religion in Manipur, which is 41 percent Christian.[5]Nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of India's Christians are found in South India, Goa, & Mumbai (Bombay).[6] The oldest known Christian group in North India are the Hindustani-speaking Bettiah Christians of Bihar, formed in the early 1700s through a Capuchin mission and under the patronage of Rajas (kings) in the Moghal Empire.[7][8][9] The Church of North India and the Church of South India are a United Protestant denomination; which resulted from the evangelism/ ecumenism of Anglicans, Calvinists, Methodists and other Protestant groups who flourished in colonial India. Consequently, these churches are part of the worldwide Anglican Communion, World Communion of Reformed Churches, and World Methodist Council.[10][11][12][13][14] Along with native Christians, small numbers of mixed Eurasian peoples such as Anglo-Indian, Luso-Indian, Franco-Indian and Armenian Indian Christians also existed in the subcontinent.[15] Also, there is the Khrista Bhakta movement, who are unbaptised followers of Christ and St Mary, mainly among the Shudras and Dalits.[16][17][18][19]

in america we have the annual running of the consoomers towards the end of november, corn syrup addled fats trampling over each other to buy tee vees and minions merchalso if you work at walmart you get to listen to mariah carey for an entire monthi fucking hate xmas so goddamn much, just a selfish greedy glutton of a holiday hogging up all of december and increasingly november
>>217839829>why isn't easter as big as christmas?Because certain people with very dominant media don't celebrate easter.
>>217839829I think the gift giving tradition helped make it big in modern times. It's also at a fixed date so December became the Christmas month. Easter changes date every year and it doesn't have a lot of fun holiday traditions (it does have egg hunt though which can be fun for kids).
>>217839882I read somewhere that there isn't any historical evidence that jesus was born on the 25th either. So christmas really is just a holiday for evangelising people. A marketing holiday really. Then why do people get bent over it's consumerist tone like this guy >>217839966
>>217840040Huh?
>>217840050>So christmas really is just a holiday for evangelising people. You are very dense if that is what you read out of that post.
>>217839829Tone-wise, Christmas is more celebratory with the birth of Jesus, gift-giving and people staying indoors during the winter to socialize. Easter is somber, revolving around the death and resurrection of Jesus and a time to reflect on repentance and sacrifice. Christmas is more fun, simply put.
>>217840050americans turn everything into consoooooomerist slop. even sacred traditions.
>>217838795Why don't you celebrate Christmas? Even Japan does. I thought you were a little bit more westernized. It's not even about religion anymore. It's just a tradition.
>>217840050>So christmas really is just a holiday for evangelising people. You could put it that way if you want. It's the adoption of a pagan holiday by giving it a Christian context.>A marketing holiday really. Then why do people get bent over it's consumerist toneAnti-consumer sentiment is a modern thing because overconsumption by the average person is itself a modern thing. When Christmas was included in Christian tradition it wasn't as big as Easter and it wasn't a marketing holiday for big corporations.
>>217840241it's not a big thing here. our christian population is relatively very small. you will see some decorations in public places here and there but that's about it. we already have our own christmas and it's diwali
