Especially after the fall of the USSR, the Russsian culture went into complete overdrive and reached levels of depression previously not though possible. Leviathan by Zvyagintsev and Day of Oprichnik by Sorokin are quite good, especially the Day of Oprichnik in particular but this can't even be enjoyed by foreigners because the language used there is too unique and impossible to translate
