How did you realize in your country that Santa is not real?

My parents never fooled me with such nonsense.

Because he never was?
It's some Coca Cola marketing bullshit.

that's because they want to make sure you know that the only people coming down the chimney of your favela house at night are the cartel

I thought Santa and God were the same person because of the whole "always watching / judging you" shtick being conflated in my child mind which made my parents telling me he wasn't real around age six pretty devastating. I remember asking them in tears, "Then why do we go to Church?" and they just laughed. Pretty funny in retrospect.

How do people convince kids that santa is real?
In my family we always had to and from cards on presents so it was never a secret where the present came from. I also went christmas shopping with my mom sometimes to buy presents for other family members.

Not Santa, but Saint Nicolas here is just something that happens. My 1 y/o has been held by him a few times, at daycare they celebrate it, it's on TV, the news during Sinterklaas makes sure not to break the illusion etc.

As a parent, you just play along with the rest and they'll believe it.

One of our neighbors was playing Santa for us one Christmas and I recognized him from his pants.
