Jesus I got a flashback of my most idiotic yet working fix for a laptop. Around 2005-6, cheap ass laptop, randomly crashing, even preboot sometimes. Googled for a workaround, turned out that series had bad chipset/bga connection at manufacturing, a strong press with finger on the surface, under around the middle of the spacebar fixed it. Tried it, worked like a charm. I've informed the owner and the most I could do, he agreed. I've disassembled the laptop and placed a heat resistant rubber ring (an extra for a radiator valve) on the chipset, fixed with duct tape to hold it in place. When it was assembled, the pressure caused by the laptop's cover + rubber ring on the chipset fucking made it work in exchange for some bumped surface at the laptop, visible when it was closed but a problem other than aesthetics.Fixed a BGA fail like that. It was so stupid but working at the same time, I still got payed pretty well for my efforts.
