During the war Italians killed tens of thousands of Croatian civilians. Many Croats thus joined the Partisans and it was therefore a victory.The reason why today's Croatia has Istria, Kvarner and Dalmatia is because communists secured these borders after WW2 and our Independence War in the 1990s was basically about securing these communist borders, ironically.
