>be American >buy a truck that's five meters long and three meters wide>complain about it not fitting in a standard parking spot why do they do this?
those guys don't complain they just park over the spot anyway and occupy a third of the neighboring stalls and stick out three feet in to the lane behind
Wtf is a meter
>>217847223Distance light travels in 1/299,792,458th of a second.
>>217847139here in florida we just park on the grass
>>217847139it probably feels good to drive it though
>>217847251In a vacuum or not in a vacuum? Under the influence of what quantity of gravitational force? We aren't in the 1800s, general relativity exists you know
>>217847139>be my nephew>buy cadillac thats 7meters long and god knows how wide>lol at all that crap and just drive it even into the bush or to our mountain cabin>it was made to do so back in the days it can do so today!i dont see much hope for the future generations but he is one.
>>217847223switch to metric already you fucking retards
>>217847354>in vacuum or notIn vacuum.>under the influence of what quantity of gravitational forceDoesn’t matter. The speed of light is the same in all frames, even curvilinear ones (affected by gravity).
>>217847433The absolute speed of light doesn't change but external measurement will change its relative speed in different frames, no? Relative to the speed at which the measurer is moving
>>217847223the unit that defines all your units. you think you measure one inch and its a sign of freedom, what you measure is 2,54cm.
>>217847510There is no relative speed of light. It is absolute. This is relativity 101, anon. Michelson-Morley experiment.
>>217847743WRONG, michelson-morley did their experiment wrong. Ether exists
>>217847856Ether schizos don’t know that there have been a bazillion tests of Lorentz invariance since. Modern ones have astronomical (pun intended) precision.https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.02029
>>217847743>>217847433100 years later and general relativity still can't be integrated with quantum mechanics
>>217847251>a meter is a distance light travels because...it just is ok!?!?!?
>>217847933Yes, it’s a very difficult problem. Very roughly, the diffeomorphism group is infinite-dimensional as opposed to nice, compact Lie groups of gauge theory. We don’t even have a satisfactory mathematical framework of infinite-dimensional Frechet-Lie groups and their representations.
>>217847990Yes. Now tell me what an inch is with the same amount of precision.
>>217847316it doesn't, they turn like a tank dragging a trailer and they cause people to road rage at you because they think every assertive action you take is a message to them. terrible vehicles, unless I lived somewhere with dirt roads then I'd want one.
>>217848075are they atleast kind of fast in the common configuration?
>>217848017It's just weird that physicists pretend that both general relativity and quantum mechanics are true despite their glaring contradictions with each other, rather than admit that phyics as a field of study knows far less than confident physicists would have you believe.
>>217848302Nobody pretends they’re “true”. I don’t know what kind of physicists you talked to. They’re valid at their respective scales (ie up to given precision) just like Newtonian mechanics are perfectly fine for solving the ballistic equation and you don’t need to solve EFEs. You can, but the difference in predictions will be so tiny that you’ll need LIGO tier precision to detect it. It’s the same story with quantum gravity, but even more severe. We currently don’t even have any realistic way to probe it.
>>217848154the one I drove had a V8 and it was fast, but the roads around here are nothing more than a quarter mile race to the next red light.
>>217848302Do they? Hasn't the whole thing in modern physics since quantum mechanics gained traction in early 20th century been the crisis about there not being any unified theory and every physicists admitting that there is something missing in all theories? Like this is my totally 100% pop science perspective, but if my stupid ass is aware of this contradiction, doesn't that mean that there aren't any physicists out there pretending to have all the answers? Or maybe those string theory guys, dunno, lol but who listens to them anymore?
>>217848547Science is inductive by nature. You make measurements, then come up with explanations, then extrapolate. If the extrapolations don’t match, you come up with a “better” theory in the sense that it agrees with both the previous observations and the new ones. There is no notion of absolute truth in science lime there is in math. It’s a continuous, infinite cycle of observations and modelling.
>>217848645>lime there is in mathMaybe in the pre-school-tier math scientists do
>>217848709It really depends on the scientists. Even in high brow shit like high energy theory it can range from baby tier shit to hardcore algebraic and differential geometry. Unfortunately 95% of physicists are the former. Shame, really. It used to be that physicists like Dirac and Wigner would drive math forward. Now there’s this bizarre aversion to formal mathematics in favor of handwavy bullshit.
>>217848645>There is no notion of absolute truth in scienceSo you agree that all these scientists like Brian Cox and Richard Dawkins are talking out of their depth when they falsely claim that Science disproves the existence of God?
>>217848878Brian Cox and Richard Dawkins are clowns who collect their checks by yapping about pop sci bullshit. Science has nothing to do with theology. Newton was a devout “Christian” (some weird unitarian Puritan) for example.
>>217848645Oh yeah, I know there is no truth (unless in some zen koan sense if the universe goes through heat death and there is nothing and no one to ask, just stilness and maybe there is some truth in that form of non-existence), just trying to think what that brit anon meant with physicists pretending to know the truth when every single thing my pop-sci dumbass has read about these things is that no physicist would make such claims>>217848878oh, lol yeah makes sense but they are retards. altho i liked dawkins' selfish gene thing but that's neither here or there with autistic religion arguments, like who gives a shit about how many angels can dance on the tip, that shit is the area of mysticism, apples and oranges etc.
