Behrani, an Iranian immigrant buys a California bungalow, thinking he can fix it up, sell it again, and make enough money to send his son to college. However, the house is the legal property of former drug addict Kathy. After losing the house in an unfair legal dispute with the county, she is left with nowhere to go. Wanting her house back, she hires a lawyer and befriends a police officer. Neither Kathy nor Behrani have broken the law, so they find themselves involved in a difficult moral dilemma.
>>217862913Because he bought the property in good faith from the county, and had no reason to suspect anything was wrong with the property or the sale, Behrani would remain the legal owner of the house as a bona fide purchaser who has no knowledge of any defect in the title to the property per California law. Kathy would have to file suit for damages against the county. Hope that helps.

>>217863117I’m actually a lawyer who went to law school in California. That’s the right answer because it’s the right answer. I have no idea what ChatGPT says nor did I consult it.
>>217863094I feel bad for Kathy
>>217863348In theory, should be able to recover the value of the house if it was a genuine provable mistake by the county. Realistically, she’s probably fucked given how difficult states typically make it to sue themselves.
