Apparently in anglo countries like USA and UK, you say HAPPY HOLIDAYS instead of Merry Christmas?

I have to first interact and socialize with people to have the opportunity to Merry Christmas others. Whenever I shop or interact with waiters I just say whatever they said to me back.
