>>218192067>he was born in a comfy river valleyYou don't svffer in Brazil.
>>218192067I wasn't born in a town, also I was born in the house I am currently sitting in

Alright
>>218193209Magic of elevation. My town Åre is up high and pretty much every 10-20 meters or so you go up/down changes the temperature. Everything right above us can be snow covered while the town itself is dry.
>>218192067I left when I was a baby so it's actually kinda funny to sometimes remember that this is technically my "home town"
>>218192660Being from Sydney must be so grim because of this, a studio in the eastern suburbs must be what, a billion dollars a week?

>>218193325Australians who lived in NYC for work. My dad works in investment banking and lived in NYC for 10 years. We left and moved back to Brisbane when I was 2 years old though
>>218192067I can't find a good picture of the downtown with the granite statues, and half of the pictures are of the neighboring capital city, and nearly all of the top results are in Japanese and from Japanese tourist websites even though I never saw a single Japanese growing up there and only ever one Chinese woman from a distance on stage. So here is a picture of the "Youth Triumphant" statue that everyone in the state just calls "the naked man statue" on one of the four corners of the town park with that apartment building I drove past a million towns in the background. Not pictured the Barre Opera House which is a simple but nice granite building, the pic would have to be taken from the opposite direction and it would be in the distance.
>>218193378And here is the second most famous statue in Barre, The Stonecutter, located in the middle of nowhere relatively speaking so you only sometimes drive past it.As it says, it is dedicated to the Italian-American stonecutters employed by Rock of Ages mainly. Not pictured or in existence: any statues for the many, many English-American, Irish-American, or French-Canadian-American quarriers and blasters who risked their lives for rather less pay to bring literal pyramids of giant white granite rectangles up out of the ground. Probably because they weren't in with the mafias/union/state government kek. This is not a very good picture but I couldn't find any others in decent resolution which included the base, if you want to see a crisper image of just the figure without the snow and from the front, there are a few on google images.
>>218193354cool
>>218192067I was born in a city.
It used to be a really nice spa town before ww2, even had it's own distinct architectural style. There was a large jewish population which was killed by krauts, so after the war commies moved a lot of poorfag population into the former jewish villas and they let them turn into dilapidated ruins. It's only in the past few years when some of the nicer buildings started getting renovated.
Most of you are urbanites. Absolutely DISGUSTING!!!
>>218192067>>218192768You cannot suffer.
>>218192067Can't find any good pictures of the place. Just pictures of individual houses being sold and news article pictures of some local building. Nothing that would give any kind of view of the actual town/village.
However shitty you think it is based on how it looks, I promise you it is much worse.
Man most of the photos itt are lovely
>>218195527looks fine if you just don't talk to anybody
>>218192067I was born in Bodaybo, it's a small gold mining town in the north of Irkutsk oblast. We lived there until moving to Irkutsk when I was five years old. I visit it sometimes because I work on construction in that area, so I use their airport every couple of months.

>>218205752I remember you bacuase it was a tread about work and I also use pic related for archaeology tasks like measuring samples and structures like pic related, just a random picture from a field course from University of Tromsø
>>218198805The commieblock I lived in
Łódź, the biggest city in Poland with bad reputation, especially back then. It has a lot of unrenovated buildings from XIX and XX century, often they built like shit. The city also had a big textile industry unitl the fall in 90s and is declining since then despite some places getting renovated.
>>218206765Looks really nice damn, imagine how Utopian the USA would be if all cities retained their pre-1950s style.>>218196178Unironically there must be something to it. My Sudanese friends can't stand living in Melbourne in winter whilst I can't stand living in Brisbane in summer.

>>218192916In some ways this is the opposite of where I was born, in sprawling Brookfield Wisconsin. I turned 63 recently, and still haven't lived anywhere without window views predominated by lawns and ornamental trees. >>218216593military brat? norfolk is the largest naval base in the world.in that building you posted they used to have something similar to a Dave and Buster's, once every few years my dad/brother/me would go and play this MechWarrior simulator game where you got into an actual pod and they had multiple screens to make it look like you were actually piloting a mech (used a joystick to control it with multiple levers to go forward/back, etc). pic related. was a lot of fun.
As it was back then.
>>218192067Is the narrow gauge railway still operational? Last time I visited Marechal Deodoro they had replaced all urban diesel trains in Maceió for those weird cearence light rail and started using the diesel to replace all lasting rural steam lines (I think there was only one or two of them idk) and there were plans for renovating the steam locos into heritage railways for novelty effect and one was supposed to go into the railline that follows the river valley through Piranhas and Penedo.
>>218216961No, it's pretty much just a tourist spot for people to take picture of. Like a memorial. Currently there's a miniature locomotive just sitting there.
still here
>>218217079What a shame.Does TLSA owns all the rail infrastructure there or some of it owned by CBTU? If it's CBTU there might be a change of being reactivated one day. Man, TLSA is probably the most anti-rail railway company ever, I swear they're only in business to steal money from the never ending construction of the transnordestina. I wish Banco do Nordeste had bought the RFN from the RFFSA during privatization times instead of these crooks
>>218192067I legitimately think the average Brazilian town would look much better if it stopped being obsessed with these lifeless apartment buildings
>>218217171Yeah, and going back to building houses like this
