>americans have to calulate their taxes on their own and if they get it wrong they go to jail (their govt knows how much they owe)
>>
why do they do it then
>>
>Europeans have never heard of TurboTax
Embarrassing.
>>
>>218201044
Actually they send you a letter. If you don't pay, they'll send another plus a fine and interest. If you don't pay that, they'll sue. It's hard to actually wind up in jail for tax evasion.
>>
>>218201044
When when they are not self-employed?
>>
americans make 100k a year. thread disregarded
>>
>>218201044
The IRS makes americans do our own takes by default specifically so we'll screw up and owe them more money
>>
>>218201317
Then how come that was the only way the federal government was able to arrest Al Capone?

They were more interested in arresting him because they had a lot of evidence against him but couldn't make any serious charges stick in court.
>>
>>218201044
here you pay too much taxes and then have to do some bothersome calculations so you can see what you can get back but if you do that wrong you go to jail.
>>
because accounting software companies lobby the american government to not introduce automatic filing
clown country
>>
>>218201044
They only know how much you owe if all you do is wage at a company. If you have literally any other source of income, they have no idea. How would they?

Okay, is it better to have a country like Finland where you handle your taxes in 2 minutes online? Taxes being easy and automatic only leads to higher taxes because you don't see the huge % that often or think about it.
>>
>>218201044
>Send $1,000 in taxes even though it's wrong
>Get a letter saying I actually owe $10,000
>Pay correct amount having saved time calculating all this shit
It's that easy (probably)

Holy pog. Genius. British smug intelligence.
>>
>>218201281
What's that
>>
>>218204290
Here the employer reports it or if you're self-employed, you are required to report it.
>>
>>218204290
they can look at your eBay account and see how much you've paid your state in taxes over the past year.
>>
>>218205953
An enormous portion of American income is tied to investments external the employer. Everyone would have to report that anyways, so might as well make them do all of it at once instead of piecing out who calculates which part. Also there's like 35 million small businesses, maybe more, which is another large chunk of the population.
>>
>>218206007
What does this have to do with anything? Ebay remitting state sales tax for the handful of us sellers on there is meaningless. The us government isn't extrapolating your income based on partial data from a third party. How would they know what your cost of inventory or margin is? Are you a retard?
>>
>>218202039
Pretty based, ngl. It's like a tax on stupidity.
>>
>>218206046
>Some have it harder so why not make it harder for everyone
Idgi
>>
>>218206193
Not some. This isn't Europe where everyone is a poor retard sucking at the empty teat of the state. The only people who have simple taxes are college students and entry level young adults. There's maybe 10% of the population that stays like this, but the rest have multiple streams of income by their late 20s or early 30s.
>>
>>218206327
That's great for them but those working a salary only, why not have the employer report that income?
>>
>>218206397
Why create a separate system for the handful of minimum wagies and make everyone else's life difficult? Also, doing your taxes is easy as fuck and literally free. The IRS allows you to do it online or via paper forms.

The "people" above me bitching about the le heckin tax companies are just outting themselves as the useless retard faggots that they are, incapable of basic arithmetic and reading directions. If your taxes are only applicable to a single source of waged income, it should literally take you about 10 minutes to do.
>>
>>218206777
It's not a separate system if every employee has to report the income paid to their employees. Those that are self-employed just report for themselves. Less work for a lot of people without any extra effort for most
>>
>>218201281
Yea that's what we mean. Our employer automatically does it for us so we don't need retarded third party services.
>>
>>218206834
I just explained to you that only a fraction of the country actually has single source income streams. The US has no way of knowing this until you report it on your taxes. It has to be a new system so that the government can actually verify that the person submitting the taxes only has one stream of income. It's a complete waste of time and resources.

Don't you have an international situation to monitor?

Do Americans think the rest of the world doesn't have small businesses or investments?
Apparently price labels in American grocery stores don't include tax either, so that basically comes as a surprise at check-out.
>>
>>218206917
So employers report for everyone and you just report on anything that wasn't income under an employer. Ez way to make life easier for most people
>Don't you have an international situation to monitor?
Dunno what that means
>>
>>218201281
>Burger government keeps an obsolete way of calculating taxes just to keep some niche software business going
RETARDED
>>
>>218206987
Not anywhere near the level of the US. Every adult has multiple investment accounts accruing dividends, not to mention the IRAs, 401ks, HSAs, etc. Your meme continent could never.
>>218207045
Do you legit not understand? Like there's no way you're pretending to be this stupid. There's a shit ton of considerations like contribution cuttoffs to specific special tax accounts, thresholds on total income vs. loss, what you withheld, what you carried over from last year. It's not possible to complete your taxes without all pieces together. I can't imagine trying to submit accurate taxes without my standard salaried wage income just because some retail worker couldn't be assed to spend 10 minutes once a year doing their own.
>>218207224
Literally doesn't happen. It's free to submit your taxes online directly to the IRS.
>>
>>218207553
Anon it's calculad for you based on the reported incomes and if you want to make changes then you submit them yourself. That way a lot of people don't have to bother doing anything and it's not any harder for others. Ez system
>>
My dad taught me how to evade it and use banks in other countries.

Remember 'muricans HAVE to pay taxes even if they move out to another country. Not even Cuba does that.

>>218202084
it was a stitch job he was innocent

For 75% of Americans:
>employer or bank sends you a form
>you fill in the form on a website
>website asks you a few questions about your household
>website calculates how much you owe (or, more likely, how much you'll get back)
>you pay the website $40 for this privilege (there are free ones but they're getting harder to find and that faggot cocksucker Musk shut down the government's own free version)

Most of the remaining 25% have investment income and other shit that requires filling in a few more forms
