Also, some surnames are shared across countries. Smith is found in Scotland as well as England but some don’t share a common origin. Some were gaels that anglicized it a Mac name and did so long before emigrating.

Any ancient dna overlap between Brythonics and Gauls would be accounted for in the model for Brythonic admixture (or just pre-Anglo-Saxon dna). The paper suggests that it come over time. Every British person has Norman ancestors anyway by virtue of statics and pedigree collapse. It’s simply unavoidable, even if you don’t carry French dna which itself is unlikely.
