Why doesnt Europe have castles anymore? Did they knock them down to make affordable housing projects for muslims?

>>218208780Nobody builds castles anymore because they're freakishly expensive to maintain. Even richfags have trouble with the upkeep - they're basically land yachts that eat money.

>>218208780>>218213160>>218213195>>218213258>>218213267Let me tell you a story of why a French castle (or estate) was ruined. It has to do with one of the most (in)famous Frenchmen who ever lived, the Marquis de Sade, and one particular castle or estate of his, the Château de Lacoste. One of Sade's favorite spots was his Château de Lacoste. Sade lived from 1740-1814, so he was in his prime from about 1764 (mid-20s) until the Revolution. He spent his 20s and 30s making trouble and abusing women and men, and he kept getting arrested and/or kicked out of places, but since he was nobility he just kept getting away with it for years. When he needed to cool off, he'd go back to Lacoste. Eventually it just went too far and they finally locked him up in various places. So what happened to Lacoste, while Sade wasn't around? Its destruction doesn't seem to have been a single event, but rather, a gradual process. One source indicates that the townspeople looted the place on one occasion, but some authorities actaully restored order, but not before the townspeople made off with a bunch of furniture, the front doors themselves, etc.The structure was then gradually dismantled. Why, and how? In 1816, shortly after Sade's death, his widow sold the property to a local mason, who slowly took the place apart stone by stone to get building materials for the local community. This mason seems to be the one person most directly responsible for the destruction of this particular castle, leaving the present-day ruins.
>>218213849A lot of neolithic stones were sold and carved in the 19 century by their owners for a quick buck, it was before the idea of archeology and the idea of preservation of old stuff existed
