I'm from Australia and one of the many culture shocks of coming here is how euros (or at least the German speaking countries) don't have switches built in with their wall plugs. It's genuinely baffling that if I want to save energy, turn off the current to my appliances to reduce a fire/electrocution risk or whatever the fuck I need to completely unplug the appliance. It feels so third world to me.

Isn't it more expensive to buy devices with those plugs? Aren't they rarer when ordering internationally/online? Most of Europe including Russia uses Europlugs or Schuko, which is the German high current plug designed to be compatible with most European sockets, even the French and Czech ones with the ground pin sticking out of them. So I imagine when a Chinese company produces a new electrical product, they first make them with the plug of the biggest customer base.

Most wall sockets are unreachable behind the desk or sofa or cupboard anyway, so you need an extension cord. The most common ones here come with a switch. Then there's the sockets that are in the middle of a corridor or right next to a door meant for the vacuum cleaner - but you don't leave that plugged it, you pull out the cord when you're done vacuuming.

I know switches on sockets from Denmark, but to tell the truth I've never missed them here in Germany.
