I'm a 32 year old millennial who finished schooling right before the smartphone completely took over society and my adult life has consisted of barely scraping by in shitty wagie jobs during supposed once-in-a-lifetime economic crises, extended periods of unemployment that quickly wipe out my savings due to the insane cost of living, and kafkaesque white collar jobs that come and go like the breeze whenever the current tech fad resets every two years. And I'm university educated in what was supposedly a valuable field and have lifetime earnings greater than 80% of my contemporaries. The idea that my parents at my age already owned a house for five years, had four kids, and were working at the same jobs they'd had since graduation and would have until they retired seems completely alien and impossible to me.I see absolutely no reason to ever expect things to do anything other than continue to get worse continuously until society fully collapses so I think it's completely understandable for these kids to have no hope for the future and instead be mentally checked out of society. Better than constantly blowing smoke up their asses about how great everything is going to be like we were subjected to.
