Why doesn't Chile build a bridge to Chiloe and pave the entirety of the carretera austral and market it to tourists for roadtripping/patagonian tourism? They would make a lot of money from businesses and toll booths. Chile in general has potential to be one of the most touristed nations but it really doesn't have much of an industry compared to their size and ecosystem diversity.
